I remained silent, steadying my quivering fingers. “Nick? Are you still there? Can we please meet up? I need to talk to you.” Before she could say another word, I hung up, slamming the phone onto the table. The sudden noise made Kent jolt. His face folded. “What was that for?” “Nothing.” “Who the hell was that?” I didn’t answer, just stared down at my phone, my mind racing. “Let’s just leave,” I muttered, picking up my belongings and walking away.
