IT WAS EARLY morning and the streets were shrouded in pale blue light when the convoy of trucks left the palace. There were five trucks, two with trailers full of tents, mats, fuel, food and other supplies. Once they left the city, they would be joined by three eagles.
Zaina sat in the cabin of the second truck with the driver, a young man named Daro, who, like her, had been employed by the Eagle Knights for the duration of the expedition. He was a young local man, not a Knight and not an Apprentice either. Zaina had learned that there were no people in the City of Glass who got fewer perks than Knight Apprentices, so they would not be allowed to come on this expedition.
