7 A.D. One stroke past midnight The Inn of the Forest Nymphs For the rest of the day nothing out of the ordinary happened. The distant companion made no appearance at the inn, nor did any of the few travelers who stopped at the inn rouse Decimus’ or Gnaeus’ attention. Just a handful of travelers came, washed a day’s worth of grime and dust off their faces and hands, drank some wine and rested a few hours, before departing in an unhurried fashion. The warm afternoon sun drifted slowly toward the sunset. Lanterns and candles illuminated the night.
