He described the exhortations he and the remaining centurions bellowed out in the night rallying the dazed men and throwing up ad hoc defenses just before the rebels attacked. He described the fighting. Noted how, at first, the enemy seemed so intent on swarming over their position and killing them all. Finally, he described how the fighting slackened, then melted away altogether just as mysteriously as it had begun not more than two hours before Tiberius Caesar and his column of cavalry rode into camp all covered in mud.
