Chapter 14: The Billionaire's Hidden Room

810 Words
Nour woke up the next morning with sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Adam’s penthouse. She was alone in the massive bed—sheets tangled around her legs, his scent still on the pillow. For a second she panicked—thinking he’d left without a word—but then she heard it: the quiet clink of dishes from the kitchen. She pulled on his shirt from the night before—too big, falling to mid-thigh—and padded barefoot down the hallway. Adam stood at the kitchen island, sleeves rolled up, making coffee. Two plates of scrambled eggs, toast, and fresh fruit waited on the counter. He looked up when he heard her—smile soft, eyes warm. “Morning,” he said. “Morning,” she replied, suddenly shy. “You didn’t have to cook.” “I wanted to.” He poured coffee into two mugs. “Cream? Sugar?” “Both. Lots of sugar.” He laughed—low, genuine—and fixed hers exactly the way she liked it. Handed her the mug. Their fingers brushed. Heat shot through her again—same as last night. They ate in comfortable silence at first. Then he asked: “How do you feel?” She looked down at her plate. “Happy. Scared. Confused. All at once.” He nodded. “Me too.” She looked up. “You? Scared?” Adam set his fork down. “I’ve never brought anyone here. Not like this. Not someone who matters.” Nour’s heart skipped. “I matter?” He reached across the counter. Took her hand. “You matter more than anything in my life right now.” She felt tears prick her eyes. “I don’t know how to do this. Your world… it’s so big. So different. I’m afraid I’ll get lost in it.” Adam stood. Walked around the counter. Pulled her into his arms. “You won’t get lost,” he said against her hair. “I’ll hold your hand the whole way.” She looked up at him. “Promise?” “Promise.” He kissed her—slow, deep, full of everything they hadn’t said yet. Hands gentle on her waist. Hers clutching his shirt. When they parted, he rested his forehead against hers. “Come with me,” he said. “I want to show you something.” He took her hand. Led her down a hallway she hadn’t noticed before. Stopped at a door—simple wood, no lock. “This is my private room,” he said. “No one comes in here. Not even Layla. Not the cleaners. Just me.” He opened the door. Inside: a small library. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Old novels, poetry collections, worn paperbacks. A comfortable armchair by the window. A small desk with a notebook and pen. Photos on the wall—young Adam with his mother, smiling in front of a small apartment building. No suits. No luxury. Just a boy who looked happy. Nour stepped inside. Touched the books. Ran her fingers along the spines. “You read,” she said softly. “Every day,” he replied. “It’s the only thing that kept me sane when I was building everything. When I felt like I didn’t belong anywhere.” She turned to him. “You built all of this… and you still come here?” He nodded. “This is where I remember who I am. Not the CEO. Not the billionaire. Just Adam.” Nour walked to him. Wrapped her arms around his waist. Rested her head on his chest. “Thank you for showing me,” she whispered. He kissed the top of her head. “I want you to know all of me. The good. The bad. The parts I don’t show anyone else.” She looked up. “I want that too.” They kissed again—slow, emotional. Hands gentle. Bodies close. No rush. Just them. Later, they sat in the armchair together—her in his lap, his arms around her. “I’m scared too,” he admitted quietly. “I’ve never let anyone in like this. I’ve always kept people at arm’s length. But with you… I can’t. I don’t want to.” Nour traced the line of his jaw. “Then don’t.” He kissed her forehead. “I won’t.” They stayed like that for hours—talking, laughing, sharing secrets. He told her about his father’s death. How he blamed himself for not being there. How he built the empire to make sure his mother never struggled again. She told him about her mother’s last words: “Don’t let anyone make you small, Nour. You’re bigger than any room you’re in.” Adam held her tighter. “Your mother was right. You’re bigger than any room. Bigger than my world.
