But she was smiling, delighted to see them. She swung Daisy into her arms and kissed Nell’s cheek. “We’re playing hooky,” Nell told her. “Someone—” she cast an eye over to her grinning partner, “has a cold. A cold.”
“Ah, man flu?”
“Yup.”
Apollo grinned, looking remarkably well for a man with a cold. “And I thought to myself, who better to share my snot with?”
“Eww, Daddy!” Daisy wrinkled her nose as Tiger made a face.
“Daddy is gross,” Nell chuckled, not phased at all, obviously used to Apollo’s sense of humor.
“Come on in before you all freeze then.”
They went inside, not noticing the man sitting in the car across the street, watching them. Grant Waller watched them in silence, then started the car and moved away before anyone could spot him and report him to the neighborhood watch
