At my blank look, he got even angrier. He walked over to the table, and took some papers. "You better read that well" he said, thrusting me the wedding contract. With that, he left, leaving me standing there, still shocked.
My husband is a cold bastard. This contract was all in his favour! I could not talk about our contract with anyone at all. I will have to pay him 70 million otherwise.
I cannot let anyone know about it, even by guess, so I had to be the perfect wife in front of everyone. I rolled my eyes. Not even the house staff are to know about this. Which was why i guess he was in my room last morning when they came to wake us up.
I need to make up a story for Sherry, and for everyone interested in us I supposed. But who would want to be interested with him? And 70 million! He was a greedy bastard at that.
While waiting for Sherry, I called my mother. "You are such a greedy person" I said as soon as she picked up the phone. I really don't care if I was rude.
She took in a deep breath. "So he showed you the papers huh?" She said in a relaxed voice. "How on earth did you get me to sign that?" I asked, quite angry at myself for signing without even reading.
She laughed. "I passed it off as your dad's will" she said and there was no hint of remorse in her voice.
"Mum, you sold me!"
"Nonsense, you will understand it was all for your benefit as well. You got yourself a good husband!" she said, getting angry.
"You ruined my life!" I said, about to go on when there was a knock on the door. "Ms Harrington is here" Harold said and I asked to call my mother back.
I walked in the living room where Sherry was waiting. As soon as she saw me, she gave me a big hug. "That's a nice house he got here. And for God sake, it's like at Daphne's, you have house staff!"
I smiled even though I wanted to cringe. "So, tell me all about it" she said, noticing I was not my happy, chirpy self.
I told her our story, well more or less the same, leaving out the contract. "So he saw you at Daphne's party and immediately fell for you?" Sherry asked, wide eyed. She was always a romantic.
I nod." I know I am not the kind of girl guys fall for so easily bu-"
"Nonsense, you are a beautiful person" she cut me with a stern face. I almost chuckled.
"Come on Sherry, you know I don't like false compliments. I know I am not the drop dead gorgeous girl."
Again, she interrupted me. "You could be. Trust me, you might not be the stereotype beauty, but if you only take care of your appearance, you will be."
I rolled my eyes at that. She was my best friend, but she would always encourage me to be prettier. But when your mother is Dove McGregor, even an attempt at being pretty would be a waste.
The day passed and with Sherry's questions, I realised I knew nothing about my husband. If we were to keep up this pretence, I needed to know more about him.
I waited in the study with a book. I think this is the best part of the house so far. The library is huge and filled with books of all genres. I sat on the recliner and was so engrossed in the book that I did not hear the door open.
"Oh my, someone's here" I heard a female voice and I looked up to see a gorgeous brunette and right behind her, my husband who did not look very pleased.
I stood up and walked towards them, looking at my husband's hostile look, my senses kept asking me to run the opposite way.
"Serena, this is my wife, Demetria" he introduced with a weirdly calm voice, looking strikingly handsome in that suit.
"Nice to meet you" I said, extending my hand. She looked at it as though it had germs on it and reluctantly shook my hand.
"Pleasure" she said and looked at Dorian.
"We need to have a meeting." He stated and I felt dismissed like a child. Not one to make a great big scene in front of strangers, I nodded and excused myself.
I walked to my room with mixed emotions. Ok, I know I did not come from riches, but that was rude, to just dismiss me like that. And what was he doing with a woman all alone in that study! Christ, look at me, wondering if the husband I barely knew was cheating on me!
I paced the room. I may not have agreed to this wedding, I may be unhappy, but I will not be humiliated with him cheating on me. I felt all the frustration of the past week bubbling up. I decided a cold shower was much needed and walked straight to the bathroom.
"Miss Demetria, you need to wake up" I felt someone shaking me and I rolled to see Mrs Primrose looking somewhat stern.
I looked around and frowned. I was supposed to have a talk with my husband...why was I sleeping? I sat up and it all came crashing down. I was waiting for my husband to be done, and waited while lying on bed and fell asleep waiting.
"Good morning" I said, stretching.
"It's nearly midday" she said in a gruff voice while she opened my curtains. I chuckled as I checked my watch. It was still 7:30.
"I'll make sure your breakfast is ready downstairs." She said and closed the door behind her.
I woke up and realised I still needed to have that talk with my husband. I walked to the adjoining door and knocked.
He opened the door and he was again dressed in a business suit and perfectly made hair. Compared to him I was. I looked down on myself only to see me still in my baggy pajamas and I was dead sure my hair was messy as hell. I looked back up again and he raised an eyebrow at me.
Well too late to go change now. "I wanted to talk to you" I said bravely. He nodded and motioned me to sit down on the sofa.
I walked over and as soon as I sat down, he said, "I wanted to talk to you too. I need you to do a couple of things for me. There's a list I left in your room last night, places you need to go to. Please abide by them." He said, not once glancing at me.
"I was very disappointed last night with you there. You need to play the trophy wife," then he looked up at me for a fleeting second, "I understand it is difficult for someone like you, but you need to hold your end of the bargain" he said, picking up his briefcase.
"Wait, I still need to-"
"We'll talk when I get back home. I have work to do, unlike some people." He said rudely and left. I find myself sitting in his room shocked...again.
Angry with myself more than him, I stormed into my room. I should have stood upto him! He had this towering personality that was intimidating and I cringed how I just couldn't say anything.
I walked over to the table and looked at the list he gave me.
I nearly had a fit. That Bastard! He expected me to take grooming and etiquette lessons! The gall of the man. I agree I was not born into this big prestigious family but I was good mannered. I was steaming when Mrs Primrose called for breakfast.
I sighed and looked at the paper. If he expected me to be this meek woman, he got this all wrong. I placed the paper on the table and took out my phone. I had better things to do than finishing school!
"Alright, all done!" Sherry says stretching on the recliner in the study. I looked up at her and fastened my pace.
We were applying for jobs everywhere we could. I told Sherry I needed to work. "But your husband is kind of well off. You don't need to work" she said. I shook my head. He insinuated I had nothing to do all day. Well, marriage is not going to come into the way of my career.
I was pretty sure I would get a reply soon enough. I might not be a raving beauty, but I had a good brain, the only thing I was confident about.
She put the laptop away and started walking about the study. "You have so many books!" She exclaimed. She smiled. "I bet you too come here a lot. Since you are a book worm as well" I blushed at her insinuation. If only...but then, who knows what might have happened last night between my cold husband and that beautiful brunette.
I badly wanted to talk to Sherry about it, but I could not. I did not after all, have 70 million. Why would he want such an exorbitant amount anyway?
"Hello, earth calling" I heard sherry say while waving her hand in front of me. "You are caught up in thoughts of your husband, aren't you?" she teased.
I sighed. "No, it's just that I haven't been out at all since the wedding" I said, trying hard not to tell her everything. But it was true that I haven't been out at all.
"You just had to ask dummy!" Sherry said pulling me out of my chair.
"Wait where are we going?"
"Around" she replied wth a wink. Should inform my husband? I almost laughed at that ridiculous idea. He had said so himself I can do whatever I want.
I shrug and went off with my best friend for a wonderful day out.
