Chapter 3

When Evelyn heard those words, every last bit of strength drained out of her body all at once. It turned out, while she was desperately scraping together every penny, so broke she was already working nearly three full shifts a day just to survive… Adrian had already bought Sophia an entire house filled with luxury goods. There were so many gifts they couldn’t even fit inside one house, he had actually purchased a second villa just to store them all. It was absurd. Completely absurd. Evelyn couldn’t bear to think about it any longer. Her hands trembling, she tapped 'confirm delivery,' placed the package down, and turned to leave. A sharp voice suddenly cut through the air behind her. "Hold on! You pathetic delivery girl, did I say you could leave?" Sophia grabbed the plastic bag and pulled out one of the condoms. "Why did you buy mint flavor? We specifically asked for strawberry! Forget about getting any tips…" A dull ache twisted through Evelyn's chest like a knife. She lowered her voice. "Sorry. That was the only flavor left in the store." She no longer dared ask for the tip and turned to leave again. But Sophia grabbed her arm tightly. "Who said you could go? I’m filing a complaint against you!" Adrian stepped out from behind Sophia, surprise flickering briefly across his eyes before he suddenly grabbed Evelyn by the wrist. "Evelyn! I knew you were jealous, didn’t I? You actually disguised yourself as a delivery driver just to follow me. This really doesn’t suit you." Evelyn forcefully pulled her hand away. "You’re mistaken. I’m only here doing my job." "Your job?" Adrian frowned deeply. "I already give you plenty of living expenses every month. Why would you need to deliver food? Evelyn, apologize properly for what happened before, and I’ll come home with you." Sophia immediately panicked, but Adrian never looked away from Evelyn. A cold laugh rose in Evelyn's chest. The irony was unbearable. Three hundred dollars a month. That wasn’t even enough to cover her grandmother’s medication. Adrian was worth billions, yet he genuinely believed three hundred dollars was 'a lot.' "Whether I deliver food or not, it has nothing to do with you. If there’s nothing else, I need to deliver my next order." She turned to leave, but Adrian suddenly tightened his grip on her wrist hard enough to make her gasp in pain. "Who said you could leave? Didn’t you hear what Sophia said? You bought the wrong flavor." Sophia immediately leaned against him proudly. "That’s right. Adrian and I only like the strawberry flavor. You bought the wrong one, so go buy another box. If you don’t, we’ll definitely leave a complaint." Evelyn's breathing caught painfully in her throat. "Please don’t do this," she pleaded softly. "I’ll go buy another one right now. Just… please don’t file a complaint…" She desperately needed this job. To pay for her grandmother’s medical treatment, she had spent the past two months working nonstop as a delivery driver. She was only one step away from qualifying for the platform’s monthly Top Rider bonus. Eight thousand dollars. Exactly the amount she needed. If they left a complaint and a bad review, she would lose the entire bonus immediately. Adrian looked at her pleading expression, and a cruel smirk slowly formed on his lips. "Fine. Then keep buying condoms until we’re satisfied. Otherwise, we’ll definitely report you." Evelyn swallowed the agony clawing through her chest, turned around, and ran out the door. She rushed through nearly every convenience store nearby and returned carrying every flavor they had available. But the moment she pushed open the villa door again, she froze completely. The scene before her was disgusting enough to burn itself permanently into her memory. Adrian was wildly making out with Sophia, completely lost in passion, not even bothering to stop. The moment he noticed Evelyn from the corner of his eye, irritation instantly twisted across his face. "Get out!" Evelyn fought back the nausea rising violently in her stomach. She dropped the plastic bag onto the floor and forced herself to speak. "All the flavors you asked for are here now. Could you please leave me a positive review?" Without waiting for an answer, she turned and fled. Outside the villa, the sky was thick with cold gray fog. She didn’t dare waste even a second and immediately rushed toward her next delivery. The entire day, Evelyn anxiously waited for that review notification. That positive review meant everything to her. Late that night, she finally opened the app and refreshed the page. A glaring one-star review instantly appeared on the screen. Her entire body went cold. Right then, her phone rang. The caller ID showed Sophia Bennett. "Evelyn Hart! Did you see the bad review I left you?" "Why…" Evelyn barely managed to choke out the word, already on the verge of breaking down completely. "I bought every flavor you asked for. Why would you do this to me?" A smug laugh drifted from the other end of the call. "Because all those condoms you ran around buying were completely useless, silly. Adrian said he didn’t need condoms anymore. He wants me to have his baby... "...you, buying all that stuff completely ruined our mood. If we weren’t going to leave you a bad review, then who else would we give it to?"
