Stacy Forbes's Point Of View.
The moment I saw him, I felt relieved. He was wearing a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms paired with black pant. Now, he could explain what happened and tell everyone that I was invited.
"Justin, you are here," I said, my voice was softer than I intended. I pulled my hand free from the guard's grasp and took a small step toward him. "Why were not you answering my calls?"
"I might have put my phone away and forgotten," He said, rubbing the back of his neck with a surprised expression. "Why were you calling me, anyway?"
"You did not give me an invitation card, and now everyone is accusing me of being here without one," I said in frustration while pointing toward Callie and the security guards.
"Sir, she could not provide an invitation card, and there seemed to an issue regarding her presence." One of the guards said, clearing his throat and looking unsure of himself now.
"I -I don't understand," He said, glancing around, at the crowd that had gathered around us before looking back at me.
"Apparently, Stacy is not invited, but she showed up anyway." Callie said while tapping her manicured nails against her arm and shaking her head in disgust. "I suppose some people are willing to humiliate themselves for free stuff,"
"For the hundredth time, I was invited, I am invited," I said, through the clenched teeth. My hands curled into a fist on the side in rage. "Do you ever get tired of your foul mouth?"
"You b***h," She snapped, narrowing her eyes in fury as she raised her hand in my direction.
"Enough," Justin said, running a hand through his hair in frustration and stepping between us. "This whole thing is a lot of misunderstanding. I should have explained things better, and none of this should have happened. Still I am glad -"
"Baby!" A cheerful female voice came, before Justin could complete his sentence, drawing everyone's attention behind me.
I turned around and saw a beautiful blonde girl walking towards us. She was wearing a short dress in a soft shade of pink that highlighted her slim figure. The hem ended several inches above her knees, and her matching heels added even more height to her already graceful frame.
As she reached near me, she bumped her shoulder against mine hard enough to make me stumble backward. She threw her arms around Justin's neck and kissed him on his lips.
"There you are, pumpkin," Justin said, wrapping his arm around her waist and kissing her back as eagerly as her. His entire attention was then focused on her.
As I watched the another girl in his arms, a painful knot formed in my throat. I had been nervous about seeing Justin because I was finally planning to tell him how I felt. I had rehearsed the words, the sentences in my head a hundred times but looking at them together, I realized I was too late.
A few whistles and cheers immediately erupted from the crowd. The girl remained in his arms for another minute before finally pulling apart.
The smile on Justin's face slowly faded as his gaze landed on me. His arm tightened around the girl's waist, but his eyes stayed fixed on me. I wrapped my arms around myself and stared at the floor, unable to bring myself to meet his eyes again.
"I am sorry, baby. I got stuck helping my cousin with something at the last minute and got late." The girl said, brushing a strand of blonde hair behind her ear and looking around at the crowd, the security guards, then at me. "Uhmn, what's going on here?"
"Nothing that concerns you," He said, his tone was rushed. He offered her a tight smile and motioned toward the mansion. "Come on, let's go inside."
"Well, it does concern her," Callie interrupted before they could take more than a few steps. She folded her arms, across her chest and glanced in my direction. "This girl showed up without an invitation."
I rolled my eyes at her while the girl, beside Justin studied me with a frown across her face for a moment.
"Who is she?" She asked as she shifted slightly closer to Justin. "I don't think I have seen her before."
Justin's eyes met mine again, for a brief second and looked away, slipped one hand into his pocket.
"She is just a girl from our school," He said in a casual tone, running a hand through her hair and smiling towards her warmly.
After all the conversations we had shared at school, that was all I was to him, a girl from our school? Not a friend, not even someone worth introducing properly.
"I doubt that," Callie said with a short laugh, glancing at her friends and the crowd. "Considering she spent the last thirty minutes acting like she was the guest of honor, personally invited by the host himself."
"That's not true," Justin said, his voice was firmer this time. He straightened his posture and took a deep, long breath.
I felt as though the ground had disappeared beneath my feet. The more he spoke, the less I recognized the person standing in front of me.
"Forgive me if I find that hard to believe, because I have seen the messages myself," Callie said, raising an eyebrow and tilting her head to the side. She bent down, picked up my damaged phone from the ground, and held it up in front of him. "The messages were sent from your number including the address."
"Is it true, Justin?" The girl asked, her brows furrowed in confusion as she looked between him and the phone in Callie's hand.
"The truth is, Stacy has been stalking me," Justin said, letting out a frustrated sigh. He reached forward and took the phone from Callie. "She has been finding excuses to talk to me, following me around school, and trying to get my attention. I tried to be polite about it because we go to the same school, but showing up here tonight without an invitation is crossing a line,"
A tear slipped down my cheek, followed by another as I stared at him in disbelief. His words echoed inside my head again and again, each one was hurting more than the last. I had expected many things tonight but not this, never this.
I had spent years caring about him, trusting him, and believing he was a good person. Yet here he was, standing in front of everyone and turning me into a joke.
He looked at me with cold, emotionless eyes, then down at the cracked screen before dropping it onto the ground. He brought his shoe down on it, not once but twice while maintaining the eye contact with me, in order to break it. The screen shattered even further beneath the force. He was desperate to destroy the last piece of evidence that could prove I was telling the truth.
"You, liar." I whispered, barely recognizing my voice. "How could you say that, hah? I never stalked you, and came here because you asked me -"
Before I could finish, a hard slap landed across my face. I slowly raised a trembling hand to my face, struggling to process what had just happened. More and more tears spilled down my cheeks no matter how hard I tried to hold them back as the humiliation crashed over me all at once. I turned around and saw the blonde girl through my blurred eyes, standing right in front of me.
"You are seriously shameless," She hissed, while grabbing the fistful of my hair and yanking my head back. "Do you always chase after guys who are already taken, or is Justin just a special case?"
I cried out in pain while the laughter and whispers spread through the crowd around us.
"Looks like the mystery has finally been solved," Callie said, letting out a loud laugh. She tilted her head slightly and held my gaze, her eyes sparkled with satisfaction.
"Let go of me, whoever you are." I snapped, as I grabbed her wrist and twisted her hand away from my hair. "Yes, I do not deserve to be humiliated like this."
Instead of releasing her, I forced her arm behind her back while looking straight at Justin. She cried out in pain as she desperately tried to escape my hold.
"Stacy, let go of my girlfriend!" He shouted as he rushed toward us, grabbed my wrist and forcefully pulled me away from her. "Have you lost your mind?"
Due to the sudden movement, my heels slipped against the tiles near the edge of the pool and fell backward into the water.
Panic coursed through my body as I kicked my legs and threw my arms around wildly, desperately trying to push myself back up but every movement only seemed to drag me deeper.
The sounds around me were becoming distant and distorted, yet I could still hear the laughter and whispers coming from the crowd.
For a second, I managed to lift my head above the water. My eyes moved towards Justin running toward me. Hope flickered inside me, but it disappeared the second the girl grabbed his arm and stopped him.
With that, the last bit of strength left my body, and I sank beneath the surface again. This was it, I thought, this was how everything was supposed to end.
I had never been on a real date, never had a boyfriend, and I was still a virgin. I had not even had my first kiss yet. I had always wanted to try one of those expensive tiramisu desserts, but I had never gotten the chance.
I had spent years studying, working part-time, and helping my mother, only to drown at a party because of a rich brat.
Just then, through the haze, I heard another splash in the water. A second later, strong arms wrapped around me and pulled me close. I forced my eyes open, and found myself staring into a pair of familiar eyes.
Kian Carter.
Before I could say a single word, darkness swallowed me whole.
