Stacy Forbes's Point Of View.
About half an hour later, I finally arrived at the address Justin had sent me. My eyes moved on a large sign near the entrance that read, "Welcome to Archer Mansion." The party was actually being held at his house.
I took few long, deep breaths while biting my nails, hoping it would calm the swarm of butterflies fluttering inside me but it did not work. If anything, I felt even more nervous than before.
Still, clutching my bag tightly, I stepped inside after checking my reflection for what felt like the hundredth time.
Bright lights lit up the entire property while loud music echoed from the backyard. The place was packed with students and everywhere I looked, they seemed to be having fun.
A few of them were standing in small groups near the food table, laughing and chatting with drinks in their hands, while others danced to the beat of the music.
I quietly made my way toward one of the tables near the swimming pool. I had barely been standing there for a minute when a familiar voice reached my ears.
"Eh, look who showed up." Callie said while walking over with two of her friends and crossing her arms under her chest, "Did someone tell the charity case that, there would be free food and drinks tonight?"
"Justin invited me. Is that a problem?" I said as I straightened my posture and tightened my grip on my bag. My heart was beating faster than I would have liked, but I refused to let her see even a hint of it. The confident look on my face seemed to catch her off guard for a second, and one of the girls beside her exchanged a surprised glance with the other.
"Invited?" She scoffed, letting out a humorless laugh as she stepped closer to me. "Have you ever actually looked at yourself?"
"Oh, yes, and from what I can see, I am a lot prettier and far more reasonable than you. I do not need to put other people down to feel good about myself." I said, maintaining the eye contact with a smug expression.
A few people nearby laughed at my response. Only then did I realize that several students had been watching us.
"Security!" She screamed, her face had turned red with anger. She tossed her hair over her shoulder and pointed a finger in my direction.
"Y -yes ma'am." The guard said, running toward us and bowing his head.
"Can you explain how this charity case got in ? I highly doubt she is on the guest list." She asked, looking me up and down with disgust. The two girls beside her nodded in agreement.
"Ma'am, may I see your invitation card?" He asked, glancing down at the tablet he carried.
"Invitation card? I - I" I asked while biting my lips in confusion because as far as I could remember Justin had invited me personally, but he had not mentioned anything about an invitation card.
"Oh my God, I was right." She asked, covering her mouth as if she were trying and failing not to laugh. "You saw a fancy party and decided to invite yourself."
"I am invited." I said, my gaze moved from one curious face to another before returning to Callie.
"Oh, I am sure," She said with not so sweet smile, pressing a hand against her chest and pretending to be sympathetic. "Maybe he needed you after the party for picking up the trash and washing the dishes."
The girls beside her immediately burst into laughter, and she joined in, clearly pleased with herself.
"I am sorry, ma'am, but if you cannot provide proof that you were invited, I will have to ask you to leave." The guard said, holding the tablet against his chest. His tone remained polite yet professional.
"This is ridiculous," I said as I reached into my bag and pulled out my phone. "I will call Justin right now, and he can tell you himself whether I am invited or not."
As I held the phone to my ear, I silently prayed for him to answer but to my disappointment, the ringing was replaced by a cold automated voice. I closed my eyes for a moment, feeling completely helpless.
The person you are trying to reach is unavailable to take your call.
"Seriously?" Callie scoffed, as she snatched the phone from my hand, and glanced at the screen. "How low can you actually fall, hah?"
"No, I am telling the truth," I said, pointing at the phone with a trembling hand. "Check the messages. He sent me the address himself and told me to come."
She looked down at the screen, then at me, and then back at the screen again. The girls beside her quickly leaned in to read the messages. The smile on Callie's face disappeared for a moment, and she looked unsure of what to say.
"Impressive. How did you fake these messages?" She said as she held the phone up for her friends to see. "You actually went through all this effort, just to gobble down free food, you broke ass slut."
"Excuse me," I said, staring at her in disbelief. I was too shocked to even process what she had just said, in front of everyone.
"Get her out of here, please," She said, before I could react, she dropped my phone onto the ground and brought her heel down on it. The screen shattered under the force. "I have had enough of this."
"Wait," I whispered as I stepped back, eyeing the two guards approaching me. "Please, just let me explain,"
One of them firmly grabbed my arm while the other moved to my side, leading me toward the entrance. Panic rushed through me as I tried to pull free, but their grip remained firm.
"What's going on here?" Justin half yelled, making his way through the crowd. His eyes moved from the security guards to me, with a puzzled expression on his face.
