As the meeting finally ended, relief washed over me like a breath of fresh air. I trailed behind Axel, my steps deliberately slow keeping just enough distance between us. Normally, I would have walked beside him without a second thought, but not this time. My nerves were a tangled mess and the last thing I wanted was for him to notice.
We got to the car and just as I was about to step in I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. The room suddenly felt colder, the air heavier, my whole system shut down and I whimpered as I doubled over in pain.
