River's POV:
The next morning, I had someone drop off Mari's sketchpad and a book for his morning patrol to find. I hadn't slept, but I hoped that Mari had. As I went through the morning report I was restless. I wanted to go check to see if Mari was awake. I wanted to hear her voice. It was nearly an hour later that I was finally free. There was so much going on at once it was hard to keep up with. As I walked towards the back door, Nina saw me. She fell in step behind me.
"I'll go with you."
"That'll help." I had been wondering who I was going to ask. My pack would feel uneasy about letting me go so close to the border with my mate away as well. Nina was a great choice. I made it to the back door and turned to go into the changing room, when I froze. Suddenly something didn't feel righ
