He Has Been Watching

The air changed again. But this time— It wasn’t just outside. It was everywhere. Heavy. Pressing. Like something unseen had just turned its attention directly toward us. I felt it instantly. That warmth inside me reacted, not violently like before, but sharply—like a warning. My body tensed. “Kael…” I whispered. He was already alert. His eyes scanned the room, then shifted toward the broken doorway, his expression tightening in a way I hadn’t seen before. Not cautious. Not guarded. Concerned. “What is it?” I asked. He didn’t answer immediately. And that alone made my chest tighten. Because Kael always had answers. Always had control. But right now— Something had shaken that. “He knows,” Kael said finally. A chill ran through me. “Knows what?” His gaze moved back to me. “About you.” My heart skipped. Before I could respond— A low sound filled the air. Not a growl. Not a voice. Something deeper. Like a vibration. It didn’t come from one direction. It came from everywhere. I froze. “What is that?” Kael stepped closer to me instinctively. His voice dropped. “He’s close.” My chest tightened. “Who?” Silence. Just for a second. Then— “The one leading them.” The words landed heavily. Because this time— It wasn’t just another enemy. This felt different. Bigger. Stronger. The air grew colder. Thicker. Harder to breathe. And then— A voice. Not loud. Not shouted. But clear. Right inside my head. So this is the one… My breath caught. My eyes widened slightly. “Kael…” “I hear it too,” he said. That didn’t make it better. If anything— It made it worse. You took longer than expected, the voice continued, calm and controlled. But power like yours always finds its way. My hand moved slowly to my stomach as the warmth surged again, stronger now, almost like it was responding to him. To that voice. “What do you want?” I said, my voice steadier than I felt. A pause followed. Then— You. The word echoed. Simple. Direct. Terrifying. Kael’s body shifted slightly in front of me. “You’re not getting near her,” he said coldly. A quiet, almost amused sound filled the air. You think distance matters? The pressure in the room increased. My chest tightened. Because suddenly— I understood something. He wasn’t here physically. Not yet. But he didn’t need to be. You’ve already stepped into this, the voice continued. There is no leaving it now. The warmth inside me surged again. Stronger. Answering. Defying. “I’m not afraid of you,” I said. And this time— It wasn’t a lie. Another pause. Longer. More deliberate. Then— You will be. The presence faded slowly after that. Not gone. Just… withdrawn. Watching. Waiting. The room returned to normal—but it didn’t feel the same. Nothing did. Kael exhaled slowly, his shoulders still tense. “That was him,” he said. My heart was still pounding. But my voice came out steady. “I figured.” Because deep down— I knew. This wasn’t just an enemy. This was the one behind everything. The one who had been searching. Waiting. Watching. And now— He had found me. And something told me— This wasn’t going to end with me running. It was going to end with one of us falling. 😈🔥
