He Knows You

712 Words
The silence after the voice faded felt unnatural. Like the room had gone still—but something unseen was still watching, still listening. I exhaled slowly, trying to steady my breathing. But my heart refused to calm. “He was inside my head,” I said. Kael didn’t correct me. “Not just yours,” he replied. “Mine too.” That didn’t make it better. If anything, it made it worse. Because whatever that was— It wasn’t normal. I turned to him fully. “You said he’s the one leading them,” I began. “Then who is he?” Kael’s expression shifted. Not fear. But something close to caution. Like this wasn’t a name you just said lightly. “He’s not like the others,” Kael said. “I already figured that.” “No,” he said. “You don’t understand.” My chest tightened slightly. “Then make me understand.” A pause. Then— “He’s not just hunting you,” Kael continued. “He’s been waiting for you.” Those words hit differently. “Waiting?” I repeated. “Yes.” My stomach twisted. “That doesn’t make sense. Why would he wait instead of just taking me?” Kael didn’t answer immediately. Instead, his gaze dropped briefly—like he was deciding how much to say. “Because of what you are,” he said finally. That again. Always that. I stepped closer, my voice firmer now. “Stop saying that like it explains everything. Tell me the truth.” His eyes met mine again. Sharp. Serious. “He needs you alive,” he said. A chill ran through me. “For what?” Silence. Then— “For control.” My breath caught. “Control of what?” Kael’s voice dropped slightly. “Everything your bloodline can command.” The words echoed in my mind. Command. Control. The same thing the creature had said. “He mentioned something about that too,” I said quietly. Kael’s jaw tightened. “Of course he did.” My chest tightened again. “Kael… who is he?” This time— He answered. “No one calls him by his real name anymore,” he said. “But among the older packs…” A pause. Then— “They call him the Sovereign.” The title alone felt heavy. Dangerous. “Why?” I asked. “Because he doesn’t just lead,” Kael replied. “He takes.” A chill ran down my spine. “What has he taken?” Kael didn’t hesitate this time. “Power. Packs. Bloodlines.” My heart skipped. “And now he wants mine.” “Yes.” The answer was immediate. Certain. But something still didn’t sit right with me. “If he’s been searching for my bloodline for so long,” I said slowly, “then why does it feel like… he already knows me?” Kael went still. Completely still. That reaction alone told me I was right. “Kael.” His gaze shifted slightly. Then back to me. “He does,” he said quietly. My breath caught. “What do you mean?” Another pause. Heavier this time. Because whatever he was about to say— It mattered. “A long time ago,” Kael said slowly, “before your memories were sealed… before you were hidden…” My chest tightened. “He found you.” The words hit like a shock. “What?” “He didn’t take you,” Kael continued. “He couldn’t. Something stopped him.” My mind raced. “My mother…” Kael nodded slightly. “Yes.” Silence filled the room. Thick. Unavoidable. “Then why didn’t he just come back sooner?” I asked. “He did,” Kael said. My heart skipped. “He’s been watching ever since.” A chill ran through me. Because suddenly— That voice earlier… The way it spoke… Familiar. Certain. Like it had been waiting for this exact moment. It made sense now. He didn’t just know about me. He remembered me. And that meant— This wasn’t the first time our paths had crossed. It was just the first time I remembered it. And somehow… That made him even more dangerous. 😈🔥
