This Wasn't Supposed To Exist

The figure didn’t move. Not properly. Just slight, uneven twitches—like its body couldn’t decide whether to stay still or fall apart completely. I stayed where I was, my chest tight, the energy inside me still reacting in sharp pulses. Not pulling. Not reaching. Pushing. Kael stepped forward cautiously, his movements controlled, his eyes locked on the figure. “Don’t come closer,” I said quickly. He paused—but didn’t step back. “I need to see what it is.” “It’s not right,” I insisted. “My power… it’s reacting to it.” Kael glanced at me briefly. “I can tell.” The figure let out a weak, strained sound. Not a growl. Not a threat. Pain. That alone made my chest tighten. “It’s not attacking,” I said. “That doesn’t mean it’s safe,” Kael replied. He crouched slightly, close enough to observe—but not close enough to touch. “Can you hear me?” he asked. The figure’s head twitched slightly at the sound. Slow. Unstable. Then it lifted—just enough for us to see its face. My breath caught. Because something was wrong. Not physically— But deeper. Its eyes weren’t glowing. They weren’t normal either. They flickered. Like something inside them kept shifting. Breaking. Reforming. “What is that?” I whispered. Kael’s expression hardened. “I’ve never seen anything like this.” The figure tried to speak—but only a broken sound came out, like its voice couldn’t form properly. “Don’t force it,” Kael said. But the moment it tried again— The warmth inside me surged violently. My body tensed as the energy pushed outward again, stronger this time, forcing the air to shift. “Lira!” Kael snapped. “I’m not doing it!” And I wasn’t. This time— It reacted before I could even think. Like it was rejecting whatever that thing was. The figure let out a strained cry, collapsing further as the pressure hit it. Kael stepped back instantly, putting more distance between all of us. “Your power is pushing against it,” he said. “I can feel that!” My chest tightened. “It doesn’t like it.” A pause. Then— “It’s not just that,” Kael said slowly. My heart skipped. “What do you mean?” He studied the figure again, more carefully this time. “It’s breaking apart internally,” he said. “Like something is eating through it.” A chill ran down my spine. “Something… inside it?” “Yes.” The words settled heavily. Because suddenly— This wasn’t just a strange creature. This was something created. Or worse— Something changed. The figure’s hand twitched slightly, its fingers dragging weakly against the ground as it tried to move. And then— It spoke. Barely. But enough. “…help…” My breath caught. Kael went still. Because that— That wasn’t a creature. That was a person. “What happened to you?” I whispered. The figure’s body trembled again, more violently this time. “…they… changed it…” The words were broken. Unstable. But clear enough. My chest tightened painfully. “They?” Kael repeated. The figure’s head jerked slightly, like even answering that was too much. “…not him…” My eyes widened. “Not the Sovereign?” A weak, broken shake of the head. No. The silence that followed felt heavier than anything before. Because now— There was something else. Something beyond him. Something even he didn’t control. Kael straightened slowly, his expression darker than I had ever seen it. “This changes everything,” he said. I nodded slightly, my gaze still fixed on the figure. Because now— This wasn’t just about power. Or control. Or survival. This was something else entirely. Something unknown. Something dangerous. And whatever it was— It was already here. 😈🔥
