THE HOLLOW THEONE

Chapter 15 — The Hollow Throne The Hollow Spire was unlike anything Seraphine had seen. It wasn’t built. It was grown—as if the tower had clawed its way out of the earth and solidified into stone. Its walls pulsed faintly, veins of magic running through them like blood through flesh. Inside, the silence was heavier than any dungeon or crypt. It pressed against their skin like humidity, thick and sentient. Kael had his blade drawn, but even he walked slower now, watching shadows bend around corners without moving. Seraphine, however, felt no fear. Only clarity. Her mother had walked these halls once—alone. But now, Seraphine carried her mother’s memory and the weight of all five shards within her. Every step forward echoed with purpose. At the tower’s core, they found the Hall of Echoes. There, thousands of floating crystal fragments hovered in the air, whispering voices trapped within them—some pleading, others weeping. A few sang lullabies. They were pieces of people the Hollow King had silenced, broken, or erased from time. At the far end of the hall stood the Hollow Throne. A jagged seat of obsidian, untouched by dust or decay. And sitting on it, cloaked in stillness, was the Hollow King. He was not what Seraphine expected. No horns. No glowing red eyes. He was young. Beautiful, even. Pale, gaunt, and cloaked in shadows—but with eyes like empty skies. Bottomless. His voice was like ice cracking. “You brought the shards here. Just like she did.” Seraphine took a breath. “She was my mother. And I’m not here to finish her fight. I’m here to end yours.” He stood, and the silence thickened. Her ears rang as though her mind itself was being hushed. “You think your voice matters? Feelings. Grief. Hope. Do you know how loud the world became before I silenced it?” “Too loud to hear the truth.” Seraphine’s bracelet glowed—the shards now burning within her. “No,” she said. “You silenced the world because you were afraid of what it might say back.” The throne room trembled. The Hollow King raised his hand. A wave of force—pure silence—rushed toward them. Kael was flung back. Seraphine held her ground, her feet sliding slightly, but she stayed upright. And then—she screamed. Not a cry of fear. A battle-cry of defiance. The shards responded—fire, water, air, earth, and hope swirling around her in a cyclone of energy. “You want silence?” she shouted, voice rippling through the chamber. “Then listen to this!” She slammed her palm to the ground. The floor cracked. The whispering crystals shattered, and the voices within—thousands—rose at once. A symphony of memories. Every soul the Hollow King had silenced began to speak. The Hollow King staggered. “What… what have you done?!” “I gave them back their voice,” Seraphine said. “And I’m coming for yours.” 🗝️ To be continued…
