Chapter 4

1064 Words
{Molly's P.O.V} We had managed to sit through 2 hours of advanced A&P... which to be honest, felt like a waste of time given we had studied this so much over the past 4 years but it was an easy mark, so we couldn't complain too much. I heard my stomach grumble, which was my natural reminder to eat - I swear I would forget my body's basic needs most days if it wasn't for the structure of lunch in the middle of a school day. When I'm working on my feet, it's not so easy to remember. I guess that's why Miles was being pushy this morning. "Girl, you sound starved!" Georgia spoke-sang next to me. "I know right, turns out A&P gives me quite the appetite" I joked. "That is both gross and disturbing" she laughed, faking utter disgust on her face. I shrugged my shoulders and laughed a little more. "What do you fancy?" I asked, hoping Georgia would just pick so I didn't have to. "Hmm... I think the canteen has jacket potatoes today, panini's too?" She offered. I didn't mind. I loved a tuna jacket with salad, so it suited me. "Sounds great" I said, smiling and pulling her in the direction of the canteen. "Sweet, I just need to grab this" Georgia said as her phone started buzzing in her bag. She rooted around for it, before looking at the caller ID. 'Dad' She rushed to answer her phone and walked off to the side to take the call with more privacy. I always thought it was weird how Georgia felt she needed to go out of earshot to talk to her family, but I guess we are all different. I wasn't exactly close to my family, so I didn't really answer calls from them very often - maybe I'd be the same if we were close. I could see by the look on Georgia's face that the call wasn't going as positive as she had hoped. It almost looked as if she was ashamed or being told off. I couldn't really make out what she was saying and I tried to remind myself that it was rude to pry. Maybe she has told her Dad about earlier and he had an update? Meh, I guess I should just ask her. A couple of minutes later and Georgia ended the call and came back over. "Everything alright?" I asked. Her mood had changed and she looked angry in her eyes. "No. That arsehole from earlier has told my Dad I had apparently disrespected him and now I'm getting an ear full." she huffed. "What?" I said, faster than I intended. Now I have even more questions than before. "So, he does know you?" I asked, trying to clarify what she meant. "Yes... kind of. Our families know each other. His name is Brent" she said, trying not to get into details. "Know him like what? Family or something?" I asked, seeing just how far I could push this. "No, something to do with my Dad's work. He's done some private police work for their family and they have a lot of money and power, so he basically gets what he wants, all the time" she said. I had a million other questions to follow up with, but I didn't know which one to go with. "So, he knows who you are. What did he mean, 'you should know better?'" I asked. It had been playing on my mind all day and this seemed like my chance to get the answers I was seeking. "I don't... I guess... He just... ahhhgg" was all Georgia could muster. For the first time in our lives, she was rendered speechless. I really didn't know what to say now. I've never known her not to have an answer. I kind of felt a little awkward. Maybe I shouldn't poke the bear anymore. "It's okay... It doesn't matter... Let's just focus on our day. Let's get some lunch." I said, offering Georgia a chance to change the topic. She nodded and bit her bottom lip. I watched her carefully as we walked to the canteen, trying to decipher what she was thinking. I couldn't really come up with anything that was positive or anything that made sense. The whole walk there was a kind of uncomfortable silence. "Ok... I'm sorry to go back to it, but... are you sleeping together?" I blurted out, while Georgia had a mouth full of hot potato. "WHAT?!?" she shouted, spitting food all over the table. "First of all... eew. And second of all, I'm just trying to understand why you're so cryptic about this guy." I defended, wiping tiny splatters of potato off my t-shirt. "Fine. I'll tell you what I know, but keep it to yourself." she whispered across the table. I nodded eagerly, waiting for the juicy gossip. "He comes from one of the most powerful families this side of town. His family have a lot of money and a lot of power and my dad currently has a contract with him. My dad had his position with the family questioned this morning after the run in and he's down my neck about it. He's only here as there is some kind of business meeting going on, somewhere on campus. His family own the university, hence why the meetings are held here." she said. I mean, that all made sense, but what was his beef with Georgia? "And where exactly do you come into this... should he even know who you are... no offense." I shrugged. "Well no, but the other night at the club he was looking for someone to have a good time with and well... I didn't want to get mixed up with him. Many girls don't make it very far once they've been victim to his charm, shall we say." I felt my jaw physically hit the floor. All those questions seemed to run from my mind and the only thing going on now was tumbleweed. I had no idea what to say. I opened and closed my mouth a few times before finally replying. "Well, damn". And that was all I could muster. "And now, it seems I'm not on his good side. I just hope we can make it through these last few weeks" Georgia said. I couldn't agree more.
