I sat by the small table near the window, my hands wrapped around a cup of cold tea. Kael was still awake. He sat on the edge of the bed, shirtless, the faint silver scar along his ribs catching the light. He looked stronger than he had that morning, but tired in a way that did not come from his wound. I could tell sleep was far from him. I had not found peace either. He rubbed the place where the poison had entered and watched me for a long time before speaking. “You should be resting.” “I tried,” I said quietly. “Every time I close my eyes, I hear the battle again.” Kael gave a short nod. “It will be like that for a while. It happens after every fight. The silence begins to sound like an enemy.” He looked out the window where the moon hung pale and heavy above the trees. “
