I could hear the whisper of the wind through the pine trees and the gentle rhythm of a nearby stream as I stepped into the forest. The moon hung low and heavy, turning everything silver. It was late, and everyone in the pack house was asleep. Everyone except me. I stood barefoot in the grass, my palms open and my breath slow. I could still feel the hum of the power inside me from that morning, the weight that had pressed down on Camille. I hadn’t meant to hurt her, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the strange strength that had taken over me. Now, I was trying to control it. I closed my eyes and focused on the sound of my heartbeat. I drew the cold night air in and let my wolf rise to the surface. The silver glow came almost at once, soft at first, like moonlight beneath my skin.
