Every Saturday morning I made out time to play soccer. It was the only free time i had to train with the soccer team of my college. As I ran accross the field in pursuit of the ball I heard my phone ring. It was not unusual for my phone to ring that early on a Saturday morning. But when the phone kept ringing again and again it got me really wondering who in the world was calling. I usually do not pick up calls until training seaaion is over but right now, i felt like making an exception. While i pondered whether to pick up or not, i heard coach scream at the top of his voice.. 'whoever the hell owns this ring phone should come pick it up before I go crazy'. So i quickly headed for the sidelines. When i got close to caoch i smiled at him. Quickly he signaled a younger player to take my place. When i got to my back pack the phone was still ringing but as I was about to picked up the call it ended ended. I was surprised to see that i had 30 missed calls from eight different people and fifteen messages. Most of the calls and messages where from international lines.. My uncle n his wife, my neighbors and some friends too. I was immediately puzzled, wondering what was going on. As i was about to open the first message that came in, another call came in. It was my uncle's wife calling from home. I picked it up feeling abit panicky. After exchanging pleasantries and listening to her for the next three minutes the phone fell of my hand and hit the concrete floor. Coach turned to see what was going on. 'whats the matter Kevin?' He walked up to me to inqure. I was unable to answer, then he tapped me on the shoulder. I looked up at him with hot tears running down my cheek. 'What's wrong', he asked agian feeling alarmed......... I strughled with the words for a while but finally spilled it out rather laboriously ... My dad is late. Caoch was stunned.
The following day i was on my way back home.... Back to Nigeria not knowing if I would ever come back to the land of my dreams agian...
