Chapter 2

1099 Words
A few days later its time for Milley to go back to school since the weekend was over. “Milley, Its time to get up and get ready for school” called Jenny from the kitchen. Milley rolled off the cot hitting the floor. “Ouch” Milley said as she pushed herself off of the floor. She had not gotten used to sleeping on the cot for she dreamed of being back in her room in her own bed. Though this wasn’t her first rodeo of something like this happening she knew it would only be a little while before she and her siblings would be back in their home. “I’m up did my parents brings me any more of my clothes and my back pack? Milley asked. “Yes they are in the bathroom” She replied. Milley folded her blankets and put them away. Then she went to the bathroom to get dressed. As she brushed her teeth and  hair she got lost in her day dreaming thinking of her siblings. “I wonder what they are doing right now” I wonder if they are even up yet?” “Have they got clothes for school today?” Milley thought. Just then Jenny calls out “Milley come on... you don’t want to be late now do you?”. Without saying a word she walks through the house to grab her bag and head out the door. Milley walks up the street to her bus stop. She is always the first one there. This is the time she usually uses to catch up on homework; but today is a lot different. As she stands there in silence waiting for the bus to arrive she drifts off into daydreaming. This time she is daydreaming of a normal life with loving parents that cherish her and her siblings. Parents that don’t  drink or do drugs. Sometimes when she day dreams  she dreams of being an animal. One that is special to her though is being a eagle so that way she can spread her wings and fly away from the life she is in. Before she knows it she is startled from her daydreaming  by the neighborhood kids walking up to her. They are making jokes about the commotion that happened just a few nights before. Milley doesn’t say a word… she just turns away with her back to them and looks to the ground in shame. Just then the bus pulls up and all the kids scramble to get on the bus. Milley is in no hurry so she ends up being the last in line. Most kids fight to be first so they can get the best seat. Milley however doesn’t want to fight for a good seat; because that would do no good. For her father talked to the bus driver awhile back and they agreed to assign her a seat. Her seat is one in the front of the bus right next to the bus driver. This way he can keep a close eye on her. The bus ride is a long one; for it takes almost an hour for the bus to get through with its route.  This is even before it can pull up to her school; which is the last stop. As Milley takes her seat and the door closes she takes  her notebook out of her backpack and starts making notes of new stories that she has thought up. While writing her notes a paper wad hits her in the back of the head. She then hears the giggling coming from a few rows back. Milley refuses to do anything for every time she tries to stand up for herself she gets into trouble. “One day I will be out of school and on my own then nobody can bother me or tell me what to do anymore” Milley thought to herself. Milley listens to the whispers behind her: “Dude, Milley had to stay the night at our house again cause her parents got in a fight but this time they went to jail” explained Sam.  “Is that why her clothes look like trash?” asked another kid. “No…she never has good clothes they are just poor druggies” said another. Milley thinks to herself “Oh ya I chose these clothes to wear not that I have anything in fashion anyways. What is the point in fashion and trends anyways? My clothes are serving there purpose.”  Finally the bus reaches her school. “Finally time for some breakfast” Milley thought to herself. Everyone on the bus starts crowding to the front. As they fight to be the first one off the bus. Milley is in no hurry so she sits there calmly  putting her notebook back into her bag. When everyone is finally off the bus she gathers up her things to gets off the bus. Once off the bus she walks down the walk way as the kids are pointing and making comments about what happened to her and her family. She keeps her eyes locked on the ground as if she doesn’t notice them. She just ignores everyone as she passes them and walks into the building. Once in the school building she heads right for the cafeteria. As she gets her breakfast and sits down with some girls that don’t tease her but are actually  kind to her. They finish the parts of their breakfast that they wanted and give the rest to Milley. “OMG Does she ever stop eating?” A kid yells out. Milley looks up to see the whole cheerleader squad staring right at her. “Just ignore them Milley if your hungry then eat.” Says Milley’s friend Stephanie. Milley looks up at the clock only 5 minutes till her first class. “I better eat faster if I am going to finish this and make it to class on time.” Milley thinks to herself. “I am going to head out… see you later” Stephanie says as she gets up to leave. Milley waves bye to Stephanie. Milley finishes her food and rushes to class. As Milley Steps in the door of class the tardy bell rings. Mrs. Jones stands up “Milley your tardy” she roars. The whole class turns and looks at Milley. One kid turns to Mrs. Jones and says “because she was in the cafeteria trying to eat all the food.” Milley tries to explain “But Mrs. Jones I was in the class when the bell” The teacher looks at her in disappointment while interrupting her “Do you need to go to the principle’s office?” …………“No” Milley says hanging her head. As she walks to her seat she thinks to herself “Why won’t anyone listen to me?”… “Am I really in the wrong?” Milley's mind goes to racing. “Why am I getting treated differently all the time?” “If only they knew what happened every time they called my dad.” Milley didn’t say another word.
