Chapter 2

Later in the day, Sebastian and Alicia went out, leaving Audrey and Adelina alone. Audrey went upstairs after bidding her parents goodbye and entered Adelina's room. "Dove, can I come in?" she asked, poking her head inside. "You're already in, why ask?" Adelina responded, rolling her eyes. Audrey smiled and came into the room. "Hungry, you didn't eat much this morning," she said, bringing out snacks and handing them to Adelina. "Thanks, Jade," Adelina thanked her, opening the snack and making Audrey smile.

"I can't help but wonder why you talk to me freely but not to our parents," Audrey said, curiosity getting the better of her, making Adelina have a ghost smile. "Because you're my twin sister, you understand me more," she responded, carrying the remote by the bedside to turn on the TV and watch the news. "What car did Mom and Dad go out with today?" she asked Audrey curiously. "The red Toyota Camry?" Audrey answered, confused, as she looked at the television closely and realized, "Don't tell me that's our parents' car?"

Just then, a call came in. "Hello, Doctor David?" Adelina answered, looking at her twin. "Where are you two?" he asked her urgently, with a hint of fear and panic in his voice. "At home, sir," Adelina responded. "Come over to the hospital right now; your parents were involved in an accident," he said, immediately making Adelina jump in shock. Audrey and Adelina started dressing up and rushing outside, asking the driver to take them to the hospital. Soon they arrived, and Audrey was already a crying mess. "Where are my parents? Where are they?" Adelina shouted at the nurse. "You have to calm down, Miss," the nurse told her, which Adelina nodded and sat down on the chair.

"What do you think happened to them?" Audrey asked no one in particular, as Doctor David came out of the operation room, looking dejected. The girls rushed to him. "How are they doing? Answer me," Adelina asked immediately, causing David to sigh and shake his head. "I'm sorry, girls; we tried all we could," he tried explaining to the girls. "What are you saying, Doctor?" Adelina asked, confused, as Audrey fell to the floor, her body unable to support her anymore. David apologized, "I'm sorry," and tears came out of Adelina's eyes.

"You're saying my parents are gone," Adelina asked again, not believing the doctor, but David confirmed, nodding, making Adelina finally cry as she faced the truth and reality. "No, you can't tell me that; I had breakfast with them this morning. Tell me this is a joke, no, no," she shook her head, trying to believe it was all a dream, but it wasn't. Soon she vomited blood, a symptom of her rare illness that caused her to vomit blood when she cried. David rushed to her. "Dove, please calm down; it's bad for your health."

Margarita, their aunt, rushed to the hospital and saw what was happening. "Where's my brother?" she asked them, as David turned to her. "I'm sorry, ma'am," he announced the news to her. "No, no, no, this can't be happening," Margarita denied, crying. Audrey went to where Adelina was sitting quietly. "Adelina, Momma is gone; she's gone," she said, starting a new bout of crying. "Yeah, they're gone," Adelina said quietly, standing up and looking at David. "Doctor David, prepare the burial immediately." David nodded and looked at the girls. "Do you want to see them?" Audrey nodded. "Alright, this way," David said, taking them to the morgue and showing them where the bodies were laid.

The girls walked in quietly, sobbing. "Mom, Dad, you promised me; Dad, you promised me that you'd be here for me. Mom, why did you leave me so soon? Mom, wake up, wake up," Audrey shook the dead corpse, crying. "Please wake up; I promise I won't be cold to you anymore. Please wake up, Mom, Dad," Adelina begged, crying and vomiting blood again, then passed out. Audrey rushed to Adelina. "Adelina, Dove, Dove, wake up! Help, help us, help!" Audrey shouted, as the nurses ran in after hearing the noise and wheeled Adelina out of the morgue.
