CHAPTER 4: THE PAST CATCHES UP

306 Words
Edward's mind raced as he stared at Sophia's text. What could she possibly want to talk about? Hadn't she made it clear she wasn't interested in him? Despite his reservations, Edward agreed to meet Sophia at the park. As he waited for her to arrive, he couldn't help but think about Emily and the connection they shared. Sophia arrived, looking as polished as ever. "Hey, Edward. Thanks for meeting me." Edward shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "What's up, Sophia?" Sophia hesitated, fidgeting with her hands. "I wanted to apologize for what happened at the formal. I was really caught up in my own stuff, and I didn't treat you very well." Edward raised an eyebrow, surprised by her apology. "It's okay, Sophia. I've moved on." Sophia nodded, looking relieved. "Good. I'm glad. You deserve someone who really sees you, Edward." Edward felt a pang of discomfort. Was Sophia trying to make amends or was this just a guilt trip? Just as he was about to leave, Sophia dropped a bombshell. "I've been thinking, Edward. Maybe we could try again. See where things go between us." Edward's mind reeled. Was Sophia serious? Didn't she remember how she had rejected him? "I don't think that's a good idea, Sophia," Edward said firmly, trying to hide his disappointment. Sophia looked taken aback but nodded understandingly. "Okay, I get it. I just wanted to try and make things right." Edward watched as Sophia walked away, feeling a mix of emotions. He was relieved that he had dodged a bullet but also frustrated that Sophia still didn't get it. As he walked home, Edward's thoughts turned to Emily. He couldn't wait to see her again and forget about the drama with Sophia. But little did he know, Sophia's apology was only the beginning of a complicated web of relationships and emotions.
