13 - A Buried Chain Disgusting! Rob thought. He had fished from the packed sand the extremities of a length of iron chain. Rusted by repeated exposition to the air at low tide. It was festooned with algae and ripped plastic, stuck in the holes of the links. The sea did not waste any available space. He pulled harder to free the rest of the chain, and got six feet off before he met with resistance. The chain, slick with a slurry of microbes, was fastened to something buried under, probably a concrete brick forgotten there. It was light, but strong enough to attach some floating device to it, like a wooden platform or an inflatable boat, both long dead from the look of it.
