“Good, good…” the Warlock cackled.
He looked into the ornate goblet filled with mercury, within it, Bea was pushing Alexander away and storming off.
“Without her, we’ll have victory for sure.” A deep voice rumbled from behind him. The warlock turned to face the bear, now in human form. The bear was tall and barrel chested. He wore a wife beater and a leather vest with blue jeans, and he sported a beard and a low ponytail.
The bear moved towards the goblet and peered in. “Maybe after this is all over, I’ll have her, I love me a feisty one.”
---
Bea laid back in bed and stared at the ceiling. She had taken a searing hot shower and was finally in some comfortable clothes and her own bed. She couldn’t get Alexander out of her mind; his intoxicating scent, his lips, those strong hands holding her body.
She remembered him coming to the medical bay and kissing her. She remembered the warmth that spread through her body. She remembered the tingle that started in her belly button and spread between her legs. Her hands moved and she ran a finger down her neck, playing at the spot where Alexander nipped. Her eyes rolled shut as a ripple of pleasure rolled throughout her body.
Her body tingled and she felt that same tingle now and the wetness between her legs. She clamped her thighs shut and took a deep breath, turning around and burying her head in her pillow. No no no, he doesn’t want me. I can’t.
Bea relaxed her body and breathed in deep, letting the scent of peppermint lull her to sleep.
---
Alexander’s nostrils flared.
He was sitting at the dining table after hearing reports from his warriors and the investigators from Crescent Moon. He was waiting on Alpha Rhodes to finish up his meeting so they could finish their discussion, but the strong scent of caramel wafted towards him.
Growling, he followed the scent to a room on the third floor. Beatrice, his wolf howled in his head.
He placed his head on the door and his hand hovered on the doorknob. Mate.
He could feel her arousal, he could smell her. And he wanted her. Desperately.
Alexander could feel himself responding to her, he could feel himself getting hard.
Go in there. Claim her. His wolf howled in his head. His hand moved towards the doorknob.
“Alpha Knight? Alexander?” he could hear Alpha Rhodes call out from the ground floor.
With a growl, he turned away from the door and headed down the stairs.
---
“What do you propose we do Alpha Rhodes?” Alexander growled through gritted teeth.
He was sat in the couch on Benjamin’s office, leaning on one couch arm with a foot on the other knee. He could still smell her, and he could almost feel her. And now he’s talking to her father. Great.
“She needs to go with you.”
Alexander looked up at him.
“I consulted the Crescent Moon elders. 800 years ago, we were almost wiped out. There was only 6 of us left. Our population dwindled. Come, look.”
Benjamin stood by the window and gestured towards the village. Residents went about their lives, children played in the yard. Life seemed idyllic in this quiet village. Alexander understood.
“Let me speak to my daughter, maybe I can make her understand.”
“Alpha Rhodes I tried!”
Benjamin grinned at the Lycan. “You’re her mate. You haven’t mated. Until then, I doubt you’d be able to give her a logical argument without getting distracted or emotional.”
Alexander just stared.
“And if the prophecy and the elders are right, then she will be targeted. We have strong warriors, but I would feel safer with my daughter amongst the Lycans.”
---
There was a knock at the door and Benjamin popped his head in. Bea was sitting up on her bed rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. “Hey dad.”
“Hey petal.” He smiled and stepped into her room, shutting the door behind him. He sat on her bed and gave her a tight hug, kissing her on the top of her head.
“I need to talk to you about Alpha Knight.”
Bea stiffened and Benjamin pulled away.
“Look Bea, I don’t want to send you away either. But it’s bigger than the both of us.”
Bea glared at him for a moment and her gaze softened. “I know dad, I know. If I’m the key to all this, I need to set my feelings aside and do what needs to be done. I need to do this with Alexander. The village needs me.”
“But it hurts, dad,” she whispered, finally allowing tears to fall. She sobbed quietly as her dad stroked her back gently. She thought about how happy her parents are and the joy that simply radiated off Bennett and Gabby.
“We all need you Bea, those creatures are going to be after you too Bea, and you need to be safe too.”
Bea allowed herself to cry just a moment more. She sniffed and dried her eyes, looking up at her dad, nodding. “I know what I need to do. I’m a warrior.”
“That’s my girl. I’m sorry that it has to come to this.”
Bea smiled at her dad. She was definitely daddy’s girl, and she loved him with all her being. She admired him as a parent, as a leader, and as an Alpha – she could only hope to be as strong a leader as he is one day. And she knew that leaders had to make tough choices.
“Dad, can you ask Alexander to come in here please.”
---
Bea was looking out the window when Alexander walked in.
She took his breath away. She was wearing a dark grey dress with a black cardigan wrapped around her. Her hair was loose and draped over one shoulder. He wanted her in his arms, he wanted to run his tongue down the side of his neck, he wanted to feel himself move inside –
“Alexander”
“Beatrice”
She turned to face him and stared right into his eyes. “I’ll do it, I’ll come with you. I’ll help you.”
He raised his eyebrows but waited and let her continue. She sighed.
“I know we’re mates. And I know you don’t want me. And that’s ok. I’m ok with this. I’m not doing this for you, I’m doing this for the greater good.”
“Beatrice, no, you misunderstand. I want you. I just, I can't - "
He moved towards her slowly and in a swift motion, lifted her, and wrapped her legs around his waist. He moved towards the wall and leaned her against it as he attacked her lips again. He sucked on her lower lip as he moved a hand to her neck, thumbing her ear lobe with his thumb as he caressed her neck with his palm. Bea moaned and rocked her hips against him earning her a growl from deep in his chest.
And as suddenly as it began, she growled in frustration and pushed him away, stumbling back down at her feet. “No.”
His eyes had gone black and he growled at her, approaching her once again. His canines were visible now. “No?”
“No. You don’t want me as a mate. But you want my body. Well, you need to have both. You can’t just have one and not the other.” Bea steeled her jaw and stared right into his black eyes. She knew his Lycan was right on the surface.
"I, Beatrice Rhodes, reject - "
Alexander growled at her and as he moved to lunge at her, howls and sirens filled the air. They both snapped towards the window and stared out. Bears had gathered amongst the tree lines again and they were approaching.
---
Without a second thought, Bea slid the window open and leaped out, shifting before she landed on the grass below. She growled at the approaching bears and bared her teeth. Behind her, Alexander had followed, landing beside her. His Lycan form dwarfed her – his large broad shoulder and thick black hair were also apparent in his wolf, his piercing blue eyes were rimmed with black and that ferocity that was usually held back in human form was unleashed and apparent in this form. His black fur moved in the wind as he stepped forward and howled.
Around them the other Lycans leaped forward, flanking the two, with the crescent moon warriors close behind. The warriors were present in both wolf and human forms again, with Benjamin leading the humans armed with silver-loaded shotguns.
The group moved towards the bears, to meet them in the middle but suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, Bea saw a purple shimmer. Purple shimmers spread across the tree line and pale, ghoulish figures appeared.
Vampires
Bea looked over the horizon and grimaced. The sun was setting.
