Chapter 2

Elena's POV. My eyes opened slowly to the bright light streaming through the curtains in the room, accompanied by a cinnamon scent wafting into my nostrils. Not to mention the intense throbbing ache that clung to me like I owned it, as if it was specially made for me. Wincing in pain, I sat up, my hand clutching my head as I tried to stop the pang, but it was almost impossible. I had to stay still for a few seconds before the pain subsided a bit. “What the f**k happened to me?” I mumbled to myself as I tried opening my eyes wide. Looking around, I realised that something wasn’t right. Something felt odd at this moment. Why were my clothes scattered on the floor? Even more confusing, I felt a faint painful sensation between my thighs. “Am I imagining things or what?” I rubbed my eyes twice to ensure this was real. My clothes were still on the floor. Looking around the room, I realized it wasn’t the one I woke up in every morning. I was in a different room—and I was naked. I recalled last night. I signed the divorce documents just as Caleb had ordered me to. I gave him what he wanted and went to the club to meet Sarah. We were drinking when— I gasped in shock. “f**k! I had s*x with a stranger.” My heart raced rapidly at the thought of it all. His deep, commanding voice, his touch, his eyes piercing deeply into mine. But why couldn’t I recall what he looked like? I shook my head instantly. “His looks don’t matter. I need to leave right now,” I muttered to myself as I climbed out of the bed and rushed to pick up my clothes from the floor. It was just a drunken night, a one-night mistake that I bet wouldn’t lead to anything. Seeing he wasn’t around, I grabbed my purse after dressing and fled from the room. I was still in the club—a VIP room had been booked. Rushing out of the club, I immediately stopped a passing taxi. It halted right before me, and I didn’t hesitate for a second to pull the door open and climb into the car. “Where to, ma’am?” the driver asked, staring at me through the rearview mirror. “Anywhere. Just take me anywhere but here. And fast. No one can find me here,” I demanded, and without hesitation, he ignited the engine and sped off. My head was filled with thoughts—several thoughts and questions about why I did what I did. Why had I let myself sleep with some stranger right after my divorce? Not to mention Sarah, who had clearly betrayed me. “I definitely won’t forgive her,” I muttered under my breath as the car drove. I basically had nowhere else to go except for my father’s house. He’d be disappointed in me for letting go of Caleb, but I didn’t care. I couldn’t help being a street wanderer because of his beliefs, right? Just as I was so lost in thought, with the intense throb still lingering in my head, the screeching sound of a vehicle heading toward us caught my attention. “Watch out!” I exclaimed in shock and fear as the driver swiftly stepped hard on the brake pedal, sending me plunging forward and slamming my head on the seat header before me. “s**t!” I grunted bitterly, clutching my forehead in pain. Here I was, trying to run away from my last night’s mistake, but to my shock, another disaster was happening? You’ve got to be kidding me. Whoever it was that had almost killed me was going to get it hot. Without a second thought, I pushed the door open and climbed out of the car, my intentions set on fighting back. “What the f**k is wrong with you? Were you trying to kill me here?” I shouted as I marched toward the car in anger. At that moment, the back door to the SUV opened, and a tall, fair-skinned man with black, slicked-back hair and a pair of icy blue eyes climbed out. He was damn f*****g handsome. So handsome that I felt my heart skip a beat, but that wasn’t the point here. He had almost killed me. “Do you have a death wish or something?” I questioned again, watching him halt right in front of me. For some reason, I wasn’t sure why, he looked calm. So calm, as though nothing had actually happened. Even more thrilling, he had a mischievous grin tugging at the corners of his lips. “Do you think this is funny?” I gestured toward his car, parked illegally in front of us. He didn’t flinch. He didn’t move an inch. He kept his piercing gaze locked onto mine. “What…” I was about to rant further, but then, he spoke up. “Am I now a bad man for trying to take back what belongs to me?” His deep voice resonated through the tension, sending chills down my spine. “And what’s that supposed to mean?” He scoffed. “I love it when you act cute, Elena. It makes me crave having you all to myself.” Okay, now he was getting way more creepy. “Tell me you still don’t know who I am,” he asked, making me take a step backward. “I definitely don’t know you. Look, you’ve clearly got the wrong person, so why don’t you apologize, and we’ll both be on our way? Don’t act like a lunatic!” I snapped harshly at him, not wanting to acknowledge how someone so cute could also be a psycho. “Oh, I’m sure this will remind you of everything.” He took out a document handed to him by the man standing behind him. Flipping it open, he showed it to me. I froze instantly. Why was my signature on the paper? And even worse, it was a marriage contract? “Recall now? Last night… the promises, your words against mine? The s*x?” he murmured, and instantly, it hit me. My one-night stand. He was the man I had s*x with last night. Now that made sense. His eyes—I knew I had seen them before. My heart raced frantically as shocking chills coursed through my veins. No matter what, I couldn’t dare accept I was with him. With my fist tightening, I finally let out, “You know what? f**k it. I’ll forgive you for trying to kill me. Goodbye.” I turned sharply on my heels, ready to head back to the car and leave before things got out of hand. But unfortunately, it was too late. He swiftly got a strong grip on my hand and pulled me closer to himself, to his body. I could literally feel every inch of my spine stiffen as his strong arms wrapped around my slender waist. We were so close. So close that I was certain he could hear my heart beating faster. So close that I recalled how he kissed and f****d me last night. “I’m sorry, but you are going nowhere, Squishy. You signed the papers, and now you belong to me alone. You are mine now, remember?”
