Chapter Seven A chorus of voices greeted us, mostly coming from the family room, although as usual, I heard my mother chiming in from the kitchen, Kelsey with her. So at least Mom wasn’t being left to handle everything herself. Dinner on Christmas Day wasn’t quite as labor-intensive as the turkey feast of the night before, but it was still a good deal of work. “Go on into the family room,” my mother called. “I’ll be there in a minute.” “Okay,” I called back, and began to take off my coat, nodding at Logan to indicate that he should do the same. We both hung our outerwear on the coat rack, and then I led him down the hall, past the formal living room where the enormous nine-foot Christmas tree held sway, and on into the more welcoming family room, where a fire crackled away in the hearth
