Chapter Four Brenda didn’t have an alarm clock in her bedroom. It was the smell of the coffee brewing that woke her. She’d brought herself one of those fancy coffee makers with a timer that magically poured her a cup each morning before the sun came up. Best purchase of her life. She let the aroma lead her down the stairs like they were fingers in her nose, pulling her along. She was surprised her feet didn't come up off the ground as she made her way to the kitchen and the automatic coffee maker. Pulling two mugs from the cabinet, Brenda poured herself two cups. Like every day of her adult life, she would drink the first one down, letting the hot water burn her tongue and wake up all her brain cells. By the time she finished the first, the second one would be room temperature and ready
