On The Ground

922 Words
The night grew restless, the sky was darker than when Carter left his house. The star was hiding above the clouds that were darker than the night. The silence grew as the night passed by, the moon was red as if it was bleeding. This only happens in years but a year hasn't passed yet the moon turned red. It got Carter’s grandma worrying for him. “Where’s my grandson? Why isn’t he home yet? I hope Carter is fine.” Her grandma cried as she couldn't stop thinking of his only grandson. Carter’s grandma opened the tv to watch some news expecting to see that nothing bad was happening and everything was fine. “Breaking news, a kid was seen going inside the perfect circle with an unknown carving, nothing happened for a while until a bright light was seen that blinded everyone around. He may be deceased but he could still be alive as no remains were found.” said the news reporter. As he caught a glimpse of his grandson’s face, she started to mourn and cry, she thought that her grandson was killed by the bright light. She cried all night thinking that her grandson left him alone like his daughter and son in law did. She couldn’t sleep as she thinks that she lost everything. The greedy clouds controlled the morning sun. It was morning but it seems like it was night. Carter’s grandma didn’t even have a bit of rest, she was still mourning from her loss. Someone knocked on their door, Carter’s grandma expected it to be his grandson. She was so happy as she got near the door. Until… “Hello, Mrs. Miller!” Evan said in a rush. “Hi Evan, what brings you here today sweety?” Carter’s grandma said in shock. “Have you seen the news? Did Carter get home yet?” Evan asked worriedly. “Well I have seen the news, and Carter might actually not come back.” Carter’s grandma said even though he doesn’t believe anything that comes from her mouth. Carter’s grandma and Evan get silent as they rethink and cherish the moments that they had with carter. “Well do you want to eat? I can cook some food for you.” Asked Carter’s grandma. “I just came by to check on Carter Mrs. Miller, even though I would love to eat some food I do need to go home because of this bad thing that is happening to our place.” Evan answered sadly. “Wise choice dear, take care as you go Evan.” Carter’s grandma said worried for Evan. As Evan was going back to his house, the rain poured or so he thought until it started to burn his skin, luckily he was near his house so he rushed faster and faster. Evan got home scared of the things that are happening, he got news from the school that classes will be canceled for the following days because the tornado and the earthquake caused a lot of damage to their school. He quickly turned the tv on as they don’t know what’s going on “Breaking news, We advise everyone to stay indoors as the rain is very dangerous to get contact with the skin as it can cause a burning sensation that burns your skin off. Not only Pennsylvania is experiencing this problem but also every country. It might just be a coincidence but it might be a sign that we’re facing an environmental crisis. Godbless Ame-” Said the news reporter as the lines of connections were cut by the very strong lightning. “What is happening, even the lines were cut? I hope everything is fine.” Evan said as he didn't know what he should do. Then it started to rain very strongly, birds flew everywhere in panic, wild animals were all in stress, people started to hoard everything in the market as they didn't know how bad things were about to get. The roads were empty, there couldn't be any humans seen in panic. Second day passed without any lines of connection. The storm had passed. Since they aren't aware that there was a plague that is contagious and very deadly that could kill you in hours once you're infected, it started to spread at a rapid speed. Many people died in just a day. Fortunately Carter's grandma didn't get the virus and so did Evan and his family. Third day passed. The connections were restored "Finally the lines are back, we can watch the news again!" Said Evan loudly with hope. "Turn the TV on, we don't know what is actually going on!" Said Evan's mom with sadness in her voice. "Breaking news the lines were cut in some parts of the country. For everyone that has their connections restored, there is a virus spreading around the world. We advise and highly encourage everyone in the country to stay in their houses to avoid the virus spreading rapidly. There is no one safe in this world, the studies showed that every country was infected with the unknown virus. Scientists are still trying to look for a cure of this deadly disease." Said the reporter. "That's why we saw a lot of ambulances yesterday mom, good thing we didn't get the virus!" Evan said thinking that they were lucky that they didn’t get infected. "You're right Evan, don't go outside for now, it is not safe yet." His dad told him with a serious face.
