"He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have." ― Socrates How true... ---- Ravana had thousands of wives... but still he wanted to marry the princess of Mithila, daughter of Queen Sunaina, Maithili.  The most beautiful maiden, and he wanted her for himself. Suddenly came up the movement...Seeta Swayamvaram. Much to the Lankaadhipati's fortune he was invited. Though it was done by Rajarishi Janak for mere reason of convention. On the interior the Mithila ruler disapproved Ravan's polygamia. He and his dear brother Kusadwaja were Ekapatniwrata, and he was not sure of the invitation.  ------- It was the muhurtam of Seeta Swayamvaram. The time all the invited Kings and Princes were waiting for. Who would not? They were bestowed with the opportunity of being wedded with the most beautiful lady known.  All the capable guests started their trails of lifting the mighty Shiva Danush. But no participant could succeed bringing forth anxiety in the heart of the Rajarshi Janaka. The works quoted by Maharshi Viswamitra rang in his ears " The one capable of lifting the mighty Shiva Danush is the one capable of holding the hand of Bhoomija( daughter of the Earth)". But the mighty demon Ravana was finding the episode extremely humorous. The timid humans were nothing in front of him, he was the Lankadhipati, Brahmana-shresta... With the same smugness the Demon stood up and announced " Enough of the fun you fools! It is time the one and only capable MAN to do the needed." By now not only Janaka Maharaja but every person in the assembly fell into a similar state of unease. Maharani Sunaina was sure she would never give away her precious daughter to the monster, the other guests also in the similar state because the were losing once in life time opportunity of wedding the Beauty.  The ahamkari Ravana tried to lift the bow with just one hand failing miserably. Every time he tried, he adjoined more power into lifting the bow. Unable to brace the embarrassment  of becoming the figure of fun in the assembly Ravan vowed he would avenge the humiliation.  Later tried Lord Rama but not before praying to The Bholenath  to grant him enough strength to lift the bow. And much to everyone's shock he was able to lift the Shiva Danush with his little finger, making him son-in-law of the Mithila Maharaja. ----- Breakdown: Ravan and Rama are individuals with equal strength, it is also explained in some vedas that Ravan is much stronger that Ram owing to the fact that he was Shiv-bakt and Brahman. It was also quoted that if Ravan ignoring his arrogance prayed the Lord he have lifted the Shiv Danush. But it is said "There is no other powerful demon than Ego".                                                                                                                         - Sriya K -----
