Hodgenock watched Max and his family walk towards Oxworth. Without warning, the witch threw her magic at Max. It connected with the boy's chest and sent him sailing backwards. There was no time to think. He had to get down there. He raced towards the chaos and slid to his knees by Max's side.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
Hodgenock glanced over his shoulder at the Downs. Esther and Griselda attacked Drusilla, but the witch was prepared and all their efforts bounced off of her. Trinnean and Gerrick appeared by the witch's side and tripled the counter attack on Esther and Griselda. Eoin and Lydia ran to block it with flame bursts of their own, but like Drusilla, Trinnean and Gerrick were unaffected. He covered Max's body as best he could.
