Chapter 34When two of McGeachy's girls came down with their washing and to pick up their shopping, they found the door to John's flat locked. They rang the bell and banged on the door, but there was no reply.
“I'll try phoning John,” Tina volunteered. “Maybe he's asleep.”
When there was no answer, Molly knocked on Phoebe's door.
“Phoebe will know what to do,” she said.
There was no response.
“This is ridiculous,” Molly complained, “I'm starving and there's no food in my flat.”
“And I haven't anything I can give you,” Tina said. “Much as I hate to do it, because I can't stand him, I'd better call Chen. He'll come over and he's got a key. The boss is going to go nuts,” she added with a hint of excitement in her voice. “He's only just hired John.”
