“What happened that night?” Lucas wasn’t expecting to ask that question. In fact, he wasn’t even going to bring it up. Yet, there he was, spewing his guts to his wife with no filter whatsoever.
“What?” His question threw Elaine, too.
“I just…” he’d just shoved his foot in his mouth. He had to straighten his back and breathe for a moment. She was his wife, after all. “Are you okay?”
She couldn’t comprehend his questions. Where had all that come from? She was used to her husband truly missing everything in front of him.
But Elaine didn’t believe one good conversation warranted her spilling all her secrets. She was okay reminiscing a bit, but not that. Not an avalanche of health turmoil.
