Late morning light poured through the tall windows of the presidential suite, warm and golden as it danced across silk sheets. Elaine stirred, her limbs pleasantly rested and her head clear for the first time in weeks. She stretched slowly beneath the sheets, allowing herself the rare luxury of not jumping up to prepare someone else’s schedule. Today, no one needed her. It felt good, like a freedom that was well-earned. To be honest, she was worried that she’d feel lost without anyone to take care of.
