The Rogue King's Queen

Rage

I shifted into my huge black wolf. My paws landed on the hard, dirt ground. 

My heart thumped widely in my chest, like a caged animal thumping around. Adrenaline rushed through my veins as I ran and ran, my tongue lolling out of my mouth as I got closer and closer to my mate. 

The trees flew by in a coloured blur, my mind set on one thought only. Find mate. 

I slowed down as I neared her territory. Five wolves stepped forward as I approached their border, they growled and I lowered my head. 

They mindlinked someone and then nodded, letting me pass through. 

I looked around frantically, but cowered when I heard my mate growl and then saw her storm towards me. 

I felt a shift in the atmosphere and checked behind me to see the guards have stepped backwards.  

Her anger sizzled and crackled in the air around her, her anger was tangible as she came closer and closer. 

I stood up straighter as she glared at me. 

That glare is only for us, tell mate that. Titus my wolf commanded and I shook my head at his silly behaviour. 

"Are you listening to me Darius Quinn!" She roared and I quickly shut the connection off to focus on my raging mate. "Now you better sit your sorry arse down and explain why you abruptly left three days ago, or I will personally lock you in the dungeons until you do!" 

I smirked at her threat, but instantly stopped as she grabbed me by the scruff and pulled hard. I whimpered and she let go with a smirk. 

"Shift back now!" I do as she demanded and shifted back. 

Rayla grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the forest. 

I sighed as the memories of when we first met came back, which was only a week and a bit ago. 

Her soft touch which is now replaced by a firm and strong grip on my hand, her loving smile which is now a frown and her fiery red hair which still burns bright. 

"Can you let my hand go you're hurting it," I complained and she pushed me down onto a boulder, hard, in reply. 

She glared at me, not a hint of love or compassion just anger. 

After a couple of tense silent minutes sizzling between us, I sighed and rubbed my face, standing up and offered her my hand. 

My mate looked at my hand as if it were a foreign creature or something else, before she placed her own smaller hand in mine. 

I walked her towards a small lake in the forest and placed her gently on a log. 

"I had to leave, you don't know me and if you did you wouldn't want me around you. I could hurt you, you have a very high chance of getting hurt by me or by being with me. I know it doesn't seem like I am protecting you right now, but I am," I explained firmly. 

Rayla stood up and stepped closer to me, until we were nearly chest to chest. I sucked in a sharp breath, her proximinty made my heart race, but I stood firm and met her gaze. 

"You aren't doing that cliche thing, where the male always thinks he is going to hurt the girl and if you are at least look as good as Edward Cullen," she smiled softly at me before she pushed me hard in the chest. 

"Ouch, and do I need to become the possessive male as well if you are comparing me to another male." I placed a hand to my heart and playfully glared at her. 

"No, because Edward is hot and you need to grow a pair and put your big boy undies on." She laughed as I stared in shock at my mate before she continued with her little speech. "Now back to the previous topic, again you aren't leaving me and just better tell me what's going on in that pretty little brain of yours."

"Later, let me talk to your parents first and then I will explain the major thing to you okay?" I inquired with a raised eyebrow at her and she nodded slowly. 

We walked silently back to her pack house and I cursed internally. 

She was right I did need to grow a pair. I can't even muster the courage to tell my mate that I was the rouge king.
