The Decision

916 Words
“If you decide to have this child, I’ll make sure she never develops her powers,” Lenny said, his voice low and laced with threat. “I can’t allow that to happen. I can’t let her become a threat.” Rachel opened her eyes, shocked. “What are you saying, Lenny? Are you really willing to do this? To take her life before it even begins?” “It’s what you’re making me think,” he replied, anguish seeping into every word. “You don’t understand what it means to be a Lycan. If this child is a hybrid, she could turn against me, against us. I can’t take that risk.” “Then you’d prefer that I terminate the pregnancy? Is that what you want?” Rachel was almost in tears, but the shock of his words made her swallow hard and stare at him intently. “You can’t decide her fate based on your fears.” “If necessary, I will. I won’t let her grow up uncontrolled, not knowing what she is. You can’t just ignore the danger this represents.” Lenny stood up from the couch, slowly walking toward Rachel. The girl took a deep breath, indignant. “You’re being selfish! You care more about your own insecurities than the life that’s forming inside me. This isn’t just about you!” she shouted, pushing him away as he approached. “And what do you want me to do? Accept something that could be a disaster? I can’t be responsible for a life that could be much greater than I am.” Lenny positioned himself in front of Rachel, hands in his pockets, looking at her with an air of pride. “She’s not a disaster, Lenny! She’s a child. A life that deserves a chance!” Silence settled between them again, heavy and unbearable. Lenny realized he was at a dead end, trapped between the choice of his pack and the fear of what the future might hold. Her words tormented him, but the impulse to protect himself and what he knew was much stronger. “If you decide to go through with the pregnancy, you can be sure that I won’t let her become what you fear,” the young man asserted, his deep voice sharp, revealing power. “I will do what is necessary.” “You can try, but you won’t be able to keep me away from that child. And I won’t allow you to hurt her because of your fears,” Rachel said firmly. “You need to decide what you really want.” Her words echoed in his mind, but the internal struggle continued. He knew he was on a dangerous path, but the need for control consumed him. The battle was just beginning, and both were ready to fight for what they believed in. Rachel took a deep breath, looking intensely at Lenny. “You’re not being completely honest, are you? I know the truth. It’s not just about responsibility or fear of what your child might face. You’re afraid of what this child could become.” She confronted him. “Rachel, that’s not true,” Lenny tried to protest, but she interrupted him. “Yes, it is! Hybrids are stronger than Lycans. You fear that one day, this child could surpass you, that she could have a power you never had. That’s what’s really behind your fear.” He felt the ground beneath his feet tremble. Her words were like blades, cutting through the defenses he had built. “It’s not about that. I just don’t want her to face the consequences of being who I am.” “Consequences? Or opportunities?” Rachel insisted. “This child could have a strength you’ve never known. You’re not just rejecting fatherhood; you’re rejecting what she could become. And deep down, you’re afraid of that,” the girl finished. Lenny closed his eyes, feeling the weight of his own truth. “What if she can’t control that strength? What if what I am is passed down to her, but on a level I could never endure?” he questioned. “You can’t assume that before even knowing. She could be different, Lenny. You can help her understand and control what she is. Don’t reject her just because you’re afraid of what might happen... Do you really think that’s fair?” she continued. “To throw her away before she even has a chance to exist? Just because you fear what she might become?” “I just don’t know if I can handle it,” Lenny replied, confessing, his voice barely a whisper. “Then you’re deciding for her without giving her a chance to try,” Rachel responded, frustration clear in her tone. “It’s easier to run away than to face what’s really happening. But this child is part of both of us. And I won’t let her be abandoned because you’re afraid of your own reflection.” The girl said, sweat running down her forehead, making a brief path until it reached her shirt. Her eyes were misty, but she refused to shed a single tear. Lenny felt a heavy heart, the truth of her words echoing in his mind. He was trapped between what he wanted and what he feared. And he knew that if she insisted on the pregnancy, there wouldn’t be many options left other than an impending war that he and his allies would have to prepare for.
