Chapter Seven: Things Take A Turn.

1362 Words
Mateo’s POV: I stood with my father, who was speaking to a nurse. I caught the scent of wet dog and crinkled my nose as I turned my head to see the familiar Brooks family, three of them to be exact. I gave a small glare seeing them walk past us to leave. My father grabbed my arm as I was ready and eager to continue that damn fight at school. The wolf pack, Alpha Brooks, was a pain in the vampire community. We were here before them, and they kept coming and didn't make their little arrival simple either. I remember that day as if it were yesterday. They came to town, and it was quiet till they came to the hospital with a woman who was injured from a fall at her home. My father was the first to meet with the Alpha as they tried to come up with a solution we keep peace for the humans, but they were dogs and didn't like being told what to do. My father made it known where they were supposed to stay, as we had separate areas where we were owed and weren't allowed. The vampire clan stayed close to the mansion and hospital while the wolves were in the wooded areas. But sadly crossed paths in school where I regretted enrolling, as what was the point, it was a joke, seeing I could never really age. But I did this for my mother. I made her a promise to graduate even though I was way past high school. On her deathbed, I made sure to do this as it was her last wish for me to do. I promised I would. If I hadn't made that promise, I wouldn't be doing this, but in any way, I would have met her. My attention turned seeing Evelynn and her sister along with another woman walking past us to leave. My eyes met her as I gave a small smile towards her giving her some hope on her father’s recovery even though I couldn't tell her the truth. My father told me a wolf attacked him, maybe a rouge or maybe someone they knew or one of their own, Regardless I didn't tell a soul, but I did make sure to give her some hope by helping out as much as I did. She was an odd human girl; she was different from the rest, two, just wanted to get in my pants for the money or my good looks. Though she turned me down when we met, and that made her even more interesting to me, so I was going to keep her close no matter what. I was too lazy in my thoughts as I didn't see Noah rush forward and shove me. I snapped out of it and glared at him as my father held me back, and they held him back. “Don't even look her way, blood sucker.” Noah snapped at me, annoyed. “I shall look anywhere I please. Besides, it seems you don't have all your dogs in check!” I shout at him as my father gives me a warning look, and I backed off immediately. “What does that mean?” Noah’s father asked, confused as he looked at us, my father sighed, pushing me a good step back from them before he spoke. “That girl's father was attacked by a wolf.” My father simply said, looking at him. “Oh, and how can you be so damn sure?” Noah huffed a laugh. “I know a wolf’s scratch anywhere. I've dealt with many.” He simply said, fixing his coat before looking at them. “Either from your pack or someone entered without your knowledge, but a human is badly injured and that’s on you.” He said sharply as he gave me a look. Walking away, I tightened my jaw and left it at that. As I turned and followed after him, as he went to the back, where his office was, as he entered and shut the door, I could see on his face how angry he was. “They are becoming a pain to deal with. I don't get why we just don't go to war and end them,” I said, sitting down on the couch in his office, as my father sighed at my suggestion and sat in the chair. “It’s not that simple. There are humans here, and we cannot risk anything happening again. It's not like old times. These aren't our land, but we will protect anyone who roams here.” He told me as he sat back in his chair, looking at me. “We lost you’re mother to those damn dogs, and I will not lose you either, do you understand me?” He whispered. I frowned at the mention of my mother as I shut my eyes, missing her every day, and I sighed, reopening my eyes to look at him. “You will not lose me, father. I am smarter than any dog. Besides, I could have easily killed him when he shoved me, but I held back as I didn't want to cause a scene.” I said with a shrug as he smirked with a laugh at my cocky attitude. “Oh? Well, I don't want any more phone calls about your fights breaking out in school, as I will warn the others too. No more fights, keep to yourselves.” He warned me as I gave a nod, understanding his words, and didn't want to go against his word. “That girl, what is she to you anyway?” he asked me. I shrugged. “I am not entirely sure myself, but what I can say is that she is indeed different than any human I've met in my life,” I whispered, staring at the ceiling, as I couldn't get her out of my head, and how she looked when crying in front of me. One thing was for certain: I was determined to keep her safe from those damn dogs, even if it meant with my own life. “Well, manage your distance. We don’t need trouble with the wolves, as I would rather keep the peace, even if one of their own attacked a human. Though by their reaction, they didn't seem to understand what happened either.” He said, looking at me with a questionable look on his face, as he pulled out some cigarettes and lit one, taking a big puff. “So rogue attack? They should handle it before we have to, and I won't show mercy to some dog.” I spat out, rolling my eyes, annoyed at the peace we kept between both species. I felt it was utterly stupid; my father was in control of our people, and no one dared go against his word, and that includes me. So I kept quiet and behaved even though I wanted to lash out at every chance, and sometimes I did at school, that’s only because I know it won't go far to killing one another since we're surrounded by humans all the time. So it was nice to beat his ass sometimes in the halls. “Keep you’re distance from her family. I mean it, Unless you have to..avoid it.” He says simply as he sighed heavily looking at me. “Why?” I asked, simply annoyed at his words though my father's face held worries as I sat up some in my chair. “Her family name, It comes from a long line of Hunters. Though I am shocked her father works for the Alpha though I suppose he hasn't a clue what he truly is. This changes everything. You need to be careful." He said to me revealing the truth about her and her family, I gave a sigh shocked hearing such information though she seemed so quiet and feisty, maybe she didn't know who she truly was or was hiding it really good. All I know is that girl was interesting and I waned to see more secrets she held onto.
