(Evelynn’s POV)
I stood awkwardly in front of the class as I introduced myself to the teacher, but also to the students of the class, who all looked at me, then away, not really interested in a newbie, which, thank god, on my end, I hated questions with long introductions. They were annoying as we were all there for the same thing, one against our will to learn crap some of us didn't care to learn, and others were there to make something of themselves, like me, for instance, who is thriving on my goal to be a nurse.
I moved to my seat, which was near the window, and sat down. My first class was English, so it wasn't a bad one; in fact, I loved English a lot and always passed the class. I passed every class, but this one never changed from an A ever. The teacher handed me a basic book for the class before dismissing me and moving back to the head of the class.
I opened my notebook and took notes on what she wrote on the board in front of her. I kept my eyes ahead and made sure to pay attention and not lack in my focus, though my eyes did turn when the door opened and the blonde boy from the fight entered the class with a sheepish smile.
“Sorry, I am late, Mrs. Becker.” He smiled sweetly as the teacher sighed, shaking her head, dismissing him as he moved to his seat in the back of the class. I turned my attention back to the board and continued to write my notes, ignoring the little gossiping behind me. But it was irritating me, and god help me for not keeping my mouth shut when it needed to be.
I turned my head and gave a glare. “Hey, keep it down. Just because you don’t care for class, some of us do and want to succeed in life outside of school, though knowing you're a little fight displayed in the hall. You probably won't go far, but for the rest of us. Zip it and respect our will to learn.” I whispered out to them as the boy with blonde hair looked shocked at my outburst, but he also gave a small smile as he nodded his head once, raising his hand gently. As another male was going to speak up, he stopped him.
“Of course, forgive me.” He whispered back, nodding as I rolled my eyes, turning my head around to focus on writing the notes even though I was screaming in my head for even saying anything at all.
The rest of the class went on quietly and smoothly, like as if there wasn't another peep from them after my little outburst, which I was still killing myself inside. Feeling eyes glued to the back of my head made me want to curl up and hide, but I ignored it and focused on writing. Luckily, the bell rang, signaling that class was over. I sighed and closed the notebook, and gathered my new English book that I had obtained. I held my stuff in my hands and stood from my seat, and made my way out of the class, and to add to my luck, the blonde-haired boy was waiting for me outside the door. I almost choked on air as I turned and walked down the hall. He gave a small chuckle before following after me and standing beside me.
“Hey, I'm guessing you're the new girl. I’m Mateo,” he said, staring at me as we walked. He outstretched his hand for me, but I ignored it, not really caring who he was or what he wanted.
I kept walking, ignoring his hand, which he withdrew as he followed me. “Yes, I am the new girl, and my name is Evelynn,” I said, simply looking at my schedule for my next class, as he snatched it from my hands, and I blinked, shocked, and followed him as he walked.
“Well, Evelynn, new girl. You have math next, a horrible subject. I always hated it.” He replied before stopping outside a door and holding out my schedule as I snatched it back from his hands, glaring at him.
“Don't do that again, and you probably hate it because you don't pay attention in classes.” I rolled my eyes and looked to the class door, which was my class. I blinked, annoyed, before sighing and entering the classroom, and I introduced myself to the teacher before looking back at Mateo outside the door as he gave me a little wave before walking off.
I rolled my eyes and took the book the teacher gave me, and moved to sit in an empty seat the male teacher assigned me to.
Thankfully, this class was simple and not long at all. We actually had a practice fire drill, which helped to shorten the class. The students stood in a line, and we walked out of the school building and outside, where we all stood there bored and cold like. My eyes roamed around, taking in the students but also looking to see if I spotted my sister at all, which I didn't, as there were too many people crowded into one area, though I did spot those familiar green eyes staring at me from a few rows away. The boy with black hair, whom I am guessing was Noah, and the blonde boy was Mateo. He stood there staring into my soul, all weird and creepy like. His friend got his attention as he looked away from me, and I was thankful for that as I turned my head and took a shaky breath, relaxing my nerves. We waited maybe thirty minutes before we were allowed back inside the building and into the classrooms.
As I made it back into the class, the bell rang signaling the next class, which was history. Then, after that class was lunch, and thankfully, I was so happy because I wanted to see how my sister was doing in her classes and make sure everything was good and no one was bothering her because I wouldn't stand for it.
As I walked to my locker, putting my books inside and grabbing our packed lunches before looking at my phone, I didn't get any messages from her, which was a good sign. I held my phone and moved down the hall towards the cafeteria doors, where she was standing waiting for me. I smiled, approaching her as she looked relieved to see me.
“There you are. How were classes?” I asked her as we moved inside the loud cafeteria room. Luckily, she was distracted, and the sounds of people chattering didn't bother her much; it was more of loud, sudden sounds and arguing.
“It was okay, I made a friend. She is nice. She offered us to sit with her and her friend.” She smiled at me as I gave a nod, happy she was making friends faster than I was. I had already made a bad impression in first class.
I followed my sister to a table with two girls sitting there, as one stood with a smile on her lips.
“Gabriella, this is my sister Evelynn.” Sam smiled as we moved into the chairs, sitting down with them.
“Gabby. Call me Gabby.” She corrects her chuckling before looking at me with a gentle, small smile. “It’s nice to meet you. Your sister speaks a lot about you. This is my friend Peneople.” She introduced the girl beside her, who gave a small nod and smile.
“Hello.” She said simply while chewing on an apple.
“Nice to meet you both, it’s nice to see my sister making friends so easily than I am,” I said, rubbing the ends of my hair as I looked at Sam, who looked at me worried, but I shrugged it off with a smile.
“Sam is very sweet. She had a little problem with one of the bitches in our class. But I handled it.” She assured me with a wink and a laugh.
I looked to my sister, who smiled and nodded her head. I was sad she didn't message me and tell me, but I was happy she had someone there to protect her when I couldn't.
“Well, thank you,” I said to her as she nodded her head, smiling at me.
As we made small talk and the cafeteria filled up with others inside, A girl wearing a cheerleading uniform and striking blonde hair walked over with two of her friends and up to my sister, who tensed up.
“Sitting here with the losers? You aren't gonna go far, new girl.” She chuckles, and her friend joins in.
“Leave her alone, Camilla.” Gabriella sighed, annoyed as she looked over at her.
“Shut up, Gabriella. I clearly wasn't speaking to you at all, know to mind your business and speak when spoken to.” She snapped at her before turning her eyes away.
I tightened my jaw and stood from my seat as I eyed the little cheerleader. She raised an eyebrow at me, not knowing who I was, but I didn't care, as I wasn't gonna let her sit there and pick on my sister, but also my sister's friend.
“Going far? You do realize my sister is probably smarter than you and better at everything than you can imagine, while you're waving your pom poms around and screwing half the guys in the school, huh? Don't speak about going anywhere, as all you're going to is the emergency room for the fifth pregnancy or std you get from someone.” I said, eyeing her as her face went red from anger and embarrassment. Others looked over, listening in as they laughed at my comment, which only fueled the pot to boil over.
“Excuse me! Who the hell do you think you are, speaking to me like that!” She shouts, annoyed, stomping her foot like a child throwing a tantrum.
“New girl’s sister, which also makes me a new face you should look out for because I don't care for bullying, especially against someone I care for. So beat it.” I said, eyeing her up and down.
She let out a loud, annoyed scream, stomping her foot again as she moved to get in my face, and I didn't back down as I stood there staring at her, though her gaze shifted to behind me as she pouted and pushed past me, bumping my shoulder as I turned to see where she was headed.
“Baby! She is being so rude.” She whined loudly as she stood next to Noah, who was standing there staring at me. His friend, on the side, rolled his eyes as this seemed like an ordinary thing. Blonde Barbie starts fights and looks to her boyfriend to back her up when she is shut down. Typical.
“Don’t call me that.” His voice was husky as he looked at her and pushed past her, not caring for her drama, though his eyes stayed on me while he passed, and he walked away to his table.
The girl huffed, embarrassed, and ran out of the cafeteria with her friends running off behind her, calling her name.
I sighed and sat back down in my seat as my sister hugged my arm, frowning.
“That was cool as hell, no one ever says anything to that brat.” Penelope chuckles, staring at me with interest on her face.
“Really? She is just a Barbie doll looking for attention as she clearly doesn't get any from mommy or daddy.” I said, rolling my eyes, I looked to my sister, rubbing her head, assuring her it was fine, as she pulled away, smiling at me.
“We are going to be close friends.” Penelope laughed, smiling at my words as she shook her head.
I smiled happily, seeing that I had made a friend with my cocky yet sassy words towards others, which I didn't mind, as Penelope seemed like someone I could get along with.
My eyes went to the table when Noah was sitting with a big group of his friends as they all talked, but his eyes went to meet mine, and it only made it weird as I looked away.
“So, who was that guy anyway?” I asked suddenly as I pulled out some fruit for me and my sister to eat while we made small talk.
“Ahh, Noah? Just your regular bad boy jock.” Penelope shrugged.
Gabby gasped, excited as she finished her chewing before she spoke. “You’re new, which means you don’t know of the ‘Golden Boys’.” She chirped, smiling at us.
I raised my eyebrow at the weird nickname but shook my head, eating my grapes.
“Well, there are three of them. Noah, as you just saw, is the bad boy type, but also the leader of the football team.” She smiles, telling me about them all separately. “The boy next to him is his best friend and his second on the team. His name is Oliver. He is super sweet and caring.” She whines gently as we look over at the table before she turns and points to another table across the cafeteria towards Mateo. “And that is Mateo, basically the white prince of the school, and his friend Jasper, who is known as the silver prince. They are so wealthy and hot, it's a shock they are all single.” She whines as I roll my eyes, knowing Mateo from class, and he was more of a pain than a damn prince that they painted him to be.
“The four of them don’t get along, as you probably saw this morning.” Penelope shrugged, chuckling as she recalled the fight that morning.
“They are dreamy.” Sam smiled with a giggle as I rolled my eyes at her comment.
“Yes, well, they are trouble, so stay away from them if you know what's good for you, little sister,” I smirked, putting a grape in her mouth as she smirked at me, nodding her head.
I shook my head and went back to eating myself, but something was eating at me. Why was he always staring at me, like he was trying to read inside my head to know my thoughts or something? Whatever it was, I wanted nothing to do with any of them.
