Chapter 11

The next morning, Jane had just settled at her desk in the project department when Ethan Underwood appeared. “Come on, there’s a meeting,” he said casually. “A meeting this early?” Jane muttered, a little surprised. Still, she grabbed her pen and notebook and followed him without much thought. When they stepped into the conference room, she instantly noticed Logan seated at the head of the table. Her brows drew together slightly, but she said nothing. The manager welcomed everyone, then turned to Jane. “Mr. Logan has extended a rare opportunity to Jane. Go ahead and share your proposal.” Jane didn’t know what Logan was planning, and she didn’t expect much from this meeting. But she calmly presented the revised version of her project. As she explained, the room grew quiet. People listened carefully, their brows furrowed—not out of confusion, but curiosity. The structure was different from the previous proposal. Logan, flipping through the pages, finally spoke. “If I recall, this version has been changed from the last one?” Jane nodded. “Yes. The previous draft lacked depth. I’ve refined it filled the gaps and made it more cohesive.”Her confidence was unwavering, and the revised plan sounded flawless. Not a single person in the room pointed out an issue. What they didn’t know was that Jane had carefully rewritten the project—intentionally embedding subtle, undetectable flaws. The kind that wouldn’t be discovered until it was too late. If implemented into a larger system, the design would quietly unravel. The damage would be irreversible and the financial fallout could bring the company to its knees. Jane knew exactly what she was doing. She wasn’t aiming for Logan. She was aiming for the one thing he treasured most—his empire. Logan gave a brief nod. “Alright, let’s move forward with this proposal.” Then, turning to the manager next to him, he added, “Go ahead and draft the contract.” The manager was visibly stunned. Andrew Smith looked over, clearly caught off guard. The entire project team sat in silence, wide-eyed in disbelief. Only Jane stayed calm, the corners of her lips lifting slightly in a sly, knowing smile. Whatever Logan's real motive was, she was ready to play the game. It took a moment before the manager snapped out of his daze. He hadn’t taken the project too seriously at first, assuming Logan was either humoring someone or entertaining Jane. But to his surprise, this time it had actually gone through. Excited and a bit overwhelmed, he quickly got to work on organizing the contract. “I also have one more proposal,” Logan added suddenly. The manager straightened, a bit wary. “Yes, Mr. Anderson what is it?” “I’d like us to form a long-term strategic partnership. From now on, all of our company’s future projects will be sourced through yours,” Logan said calmly. The room fell completely silent. Every person there stared at him, dumbfounded. This kind of deal wasn’t just a win—it was a golden ticket. If they secured an ongoing partnership with the sun tech rise, it would be like having a powerful sponsor backing them. Money aside, just the bragging rights of being tied to such a prestigious company would raise their standing in the industry. Projects would pour in steadily. Profits would soar. Their future would be secure. The excitement in the room was undeniable. Jane's expression tightened ever so slightly. “Mr. Logan… are you serious?” the manager asked in disbelief. He knew that securing a deal—let alone a long-term partnership—with the Sun tech rise was something most companies could only dream of. To hear it offered so casually felt unreal. “What, you’re hesitating now?” Logan replied, raising a brow. “No! Not at all!” Manager Kim stammered, nearly tripping over his own words. “This is an incredible honor. We’re absolutely thrilled. Thank you so much, Mr. Logan!” “In that case, let’s get the paperwork ready,” Logan said calmly. “Right away!” the manager said, spinning on his heels to leave, but paused midway. He glanced back, suddenly concerned about appearing rude. “Mr. Logan, please feel free to relax here. I’ll only be a moment.” “No need to fuss,” Logan responded mildly, his gaze settling once again on Jane. Manager Kim didn’t linger. He rushed off to prepare the necessary documents. Everyone in the room understood what was going on. Logan wasn’t here for business alone. It was obvious Jane was the reason for his generous offer. Speculation buzzed beneath the surface, but no one dared voice doubts. Whatever opinions they held about Jane, they couldn’t deny the doors she was opening. Moments later, the manager returned with two copies of the agreement. The contract was signed on the spot. Watching the signatures being finalized, the manager finally let out a breath of relief. They had landed something massive. “Mr. Logan, we truly appreciate your support,” the manager said warmly. “Would you consider staying for dinner? Our company president is returning from a trip and is eager to meet you.” “I appreciate the invitation,” Logan replied with a polite smile, “but I have other commitments tonight.” "Understood," the manager said. "Please let us know if you need anything." With the agreement in place, everyone returned to their duties. After leaving the conference room, Jane headed towards the restroom. As she turned a corner, Logan suddenly appeared, blocking her path and pressing her against the wall. Leaning against the wall, Jane looked up at him. "Is there something you need, Mr. Anderson?" "Any thoughts on today's events?" he asked. "You're quite generous, Mr. Anderson," she replied with a hint of sarcasm. Unfazed, Logan's eyes bore into hers. "From now on, you'll be the primary contact for our partnership." Jane, recognizing his intentions, responded confidently, "I'm honored by the opportunity. I'll ensure everything runs smoothly." "Jane," Logan said, his gaze intense, "how genuine is that smile? I know it's you" Jane met his eyes, her expression unreadable. "I'm sorry Mr Anderson mistakes me for someone else ." "If there's nothing else, I'll be going now." She brushed past him, but just before reaching the door, she paused and glanced back with a teasing smirk. "Mr. Anderson, if you're really drowning in wealth and free time, why not just buy out our company? That way, we can skip all this collaboration nonsense, and I can just be on your payroll directly." With that, she turned and walked out. Logan stood there, his face unreadable, silently watching her walk away. Not long after returning to his office, Vanessa burst in, clearly agitated and abandoning her usual calm demeanor. "Why didn’t you tell me about the partnership with Rising Sun?" she demanded. "Why would you agree to such a deal without informing me? Do you even realize what you’re doing?" It was the first time in years that she had confronted him so bluntly. Logan looked at her, clearly displeased by her tone, but instead of responding immediately, he calmly pulled out his chair and sat down. "So I need permission to make decisions now?" he asked coolly after a moment, his voice low but sharp. Vanessa sensed she had crossed a line and tried to dial back her frustration. "That’s not what I meant… I just don’t understand why you kept me out of the loop.""Then why did you decline Rising Sun’s proposal behind my back?" Logan countered. "I told you to hold off, not to reject it." She had made independent calls like this before, but Logan had never confronted her so directly. "I didn’t think it was worth it. The proposal wasn’t exactly top-tier. I assumed when you said to hold it, you meant to toss it aside," she explained. Logan's gaze darkened. "Even if it wasn’t flawless, it was still the strongest option on the table. You knew that. Don’t pretend otherwise, Vanessa." His tone was calm, but the weight behind his words made it clear—he saw through her intentions. Vanessa stood still for a moment, then gave a small nod. “Yes, I did it intentionally. Rising Sun isn’t the only partner we can work with. I thought I was doing what’s best for the company.” Logan looked at her, his expression unreadable. “Is it really just about the company?” he asked quietly, his sharp gaze seeming to cut right through her. Vanessa let out a quiet sigh. “Fine. I won’t lie to you—I did have my own reasons. But Logan, it’s not just that. I also did it because I care about you. I was thinking of what’s best for you.” Logan's tone turned cold. “vanessa, business is business. My personal life is not part of your responsibilities. Don’t overstep again.” It was the first time he had spoken to her so directly. Vanessa stood frozen, shocked by his words. In all the years she’d been by his side, Logan had never reprimanded her like this. Even when he disagreed with her actions in the past, he would simply ignore them. But not this time. This time, he was drawing a line. “What… what are you trying to say?” she asked, her voice slightly trembling. “Stick to your role,” Logan replied flatly, eyes dropping to the papers in front of him.vanessabit down her frustration, her fists clenched at her sides. She wanted to argue, to explain—but in the end, she forced herself to remain composed. “Understood,” she said quietly, turning and walking out of the office without another word. Once the door closed behind her, Logan finally looked up. He stared at the door for a long moment, then silently returned to his work, his face unreadable.
