CAMERON'S P.O.V.
For the past few weeks Reina has been pretty much on house arrest, after the incident at the party her fire ability has flared up daily, with the change of strong emotions or just at random times for no reason the angel fire and the unknown blue fire manifest in her hands. As I promised I have been by her side never leaving her for a second, she has been trying to act strong but on the inside it's clear that she is a mess, feeling utterly helpless at the situation. Even though I have only known my mate for such a short period I can tell this is the first time she has ever felt this helpless. We have been trying to work on ways to possibly control the fire but have had no progress so far, I've offered several times to find a fallen to help her with this but she adamently refuses, more than likely she is ashamed for someone to see her showing such weakness. To keep the pack from panicking nobody but those of us living in the high ranking house knows what happened at the party and what's going on right now, if word got out that a hybrid with uncontrolled angel fire is on the territory it'll cause chaos. Angel fire is incredibly deadly and for all we know that blue fire could be even more dangerous, however it bothers me that Reina is not the least bit alarmed at the blue fire making me wonder if she knows what it is, my mate is someone who is keeping many secrets and it seems she has no intention of sharing them to anyone at the moment.
Staring down at my mate sitting on the ground trying to concentrate and focus I can't help by sigh. "Reina you've been at this for hours without taking a break, if you don't stop you will collapse again." Reina has been spending hours a day trying to connect with her ability to no avail, she passed out a few days ago from overworking herself. Her hard work is admirable but it worries me and my wolf to see her struggling like this. "I brought you some food along with your medicine." We didn't tell the doctor what was going on but asked for some prescriptions that would keep someone's mood stable, the emotional spikes Reina has gone through caused several places in the house to catch on fire, last week we had the house fireproofed so if she flares up the only damage she can cause is destroying the furniture. Growling in aggravation, she gets up from her spot on the floor of my personal the training room and stomps towards me taking the pills from my hand and dry swallowing them, something I can not figure out how anyone can do. I sit on the floor and lean against the wall, motioning for her to join me, gladly she sits and shyly accepts the meal tray I made up for the both of us.
"So it's already dinner time?" Reina asks seeming a little stunned that so many hours have went by since she's been in here.
"Yep, now you better eat every single bite of this chicken, you need the protein because you're exhausting yourself."
Reina's mismatched eyes sparkle when she notices just what kind of chicken it is. "Oh my gosh is this home made fried chicken?" I chuckle at her excitement. A week after her stay here Sarah made some fried chicken and Reina dug into it eating half of it then proudly declared her new love for fried chicken, it is cute to watch her eat it, it's like watching a rabid dog eat, a couple times I could've swore she ate the bones along with the meat. We eat our meal in silence, both of us lost in our own thoughts, even after we finished our meal we didn't utter a word for what must've been an hour til Reina broke it.
"Why didn't you throw me out my second day here?" Her eyes hold uncertainty as she gazes into mine. Because you're my mate.
I give her a reassuring smile. "What's happened isn't your fault, nobody could have guessed you'd get angel fire all of a sudden. By the way... do you have any idea as to why you also have blue fire?" I've asked that question everyday but as usual she quickly averts her gaze, fidgeting with her fingers then shrugging her shoulders like usual. She knows why but still doesn't trust me enough to tell me. Sighing I run a hand through my already messy blonde hair. "Well it might be helpful if we knew what it was."
"Maybe it has to do with me being a hybrid." Her voice is soft as she says this. I know being a hybrid wouldn't cause angel fire to be blue, that means one of her parents has to have the ability to summon blue flames but no matter how much research my men have done, no Being in recorded history has had blue flames.
Deciding it's best not to push the subject anymore I drop it. "Possibly." Unconsciously I reach over taking her hand, feeling the small jolt of electricity that always makes Reina gasp in surprise. She stopped asking about it when I refused to answer, telling her she'll have to wait to learn about it. Nobody in the house would answer her either so she gave up and is patiently waiting for me to tell her when I feel it's the right time. "I have an important meeting tonight I must go to." A small whimper comes from my mate causing guilt to go through my heart. "If it was possible I would stay with you as I've promised but I can't miss it."
"I understand." Her voice is laced with sadness. Our time together has made her feel the mating bond to the extent of not wanting to be separated, I love that she wants me by her side all the time now, but it has become a type of torture to me that she either doesn't feel the attraction that comes with the bond or she could be choosing to not act on it. If it was up to me, from the first time my eyes met hers I would have had her in my arms showering her with all kinds of love, however that seems impossible at the moment. Brushing some of her soft hair away from her face I grip her chin gently turning her head so she's forced to look at me.
"I promise I will return before you wake up in the morning." My voice is gentle as I gaze into her pink and blue eyes, right now I just want everything to melt away. My hand slides from her chin to her cheek, she places a hand over mine, a small purr sounds from her throat as she instinctively snuggles into my hand warming my heart, I can't help the small smile that creeps across my face. "Let's get out of this room, you need to take a nice hot shower and early rest." Obediently she nods removing her hand from on top of mine, then quickly gets onto to her feet, the feel of her soft pale skin lingers on my hand as I stand up beside her wasting no time in ushering her out of the room. Being so close to her I sometimes want to laugh at the height difference between us, I have to be a good foot taller than her, my little mate is barely over five foot while I am six five. Reina's slim petite build also makes her seem smaller and almost fragile looking, but this girl is anything but fragile, from some of the fighting moves I saw her use on the vampires it is clear that she is very lethal. I would bet my life that this beautiful hybrid could easily take down all my top fighters at the same time. If Reina wasn't my mate there is a chance that me, a long with the pack would be in big trouble for letting her enter our territory.
Kevin has finally finished digging up anything he could on Reina, by using what was found about her brother Ryan, we were only able to find out she has more siblings than one could imagine and is probably working for the organization considering Ryan's information said he was a warrior for them. It is worrisome that someone from the organization is in this pack since we have no idea wether Reina stumbled upon here on accident or if she was sent. Something we found odd was that the names of her many siblings weren't found and neither were the names of her parents, everything points to them being orphans. I know that she is not an orphan considering I've talked on the phone with Reina's father and if she was an orphan who was adopted we would have been able to find something about it. My mate's parents have to be either highly wanted supernaturals or very powerful for nothing to be found about them, Reina herself is basically nonexistent since only old school records were the only thing we could dig up, we aren't even certain if those records are real or fake. Reina is practically like a hidden weapon the world doesn't need to know about. Pulling myself out of my thoughts I realize Reina and I have already walked up the stairs together, without a word she heads straight to her room to shower as I decide to go to mine to change into something else besides the sweats I've lazed around in all day.
Since I'm not going to a formal meeting I throw on a white v-neck, black ripped skinny jeans, vans, a black beanie and my immortal crystal necklace. Whenever I leave the house I wear the crystal, it has been passed down from generation to generation in my family, waiting til an immortal Being will be born again. The crystal was created by the first witch who is known to be one of the most powerful witches to ever exist, it is a clear stone infused with magic that causes a black mist effect inside, it is encased in pure silver with slits all in it to showcase the crystal. When every male in the family is born the necklace is touched to their skin, if it burns them then they are a normal werewolf but if it doesn't then they are thought to be a special wolf or possibly immortal. The first witch created it for the immortal ultimate protector thousands of years ago, a Being that now only exists in old texts and legends.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Kevin asks as I grab my car keys ready to leave for the meeting.
All I can do is sigh at the question. "We would have to meet eventually, and with what's going on with Reina this is the best time to meet." I say as I walk past him heading to my car.
He picks up his pace to catch up to me. "You will be alone, what if they try to take you out?" My beta's voice is laced with worry for his alpha.
"They won't. Reina needs their help even though she won't say it and we need to have a good talk about a lot of things." I don't bother to delve into details with him because I'm in a rush to leave, not wanting to be late.
"But-" Holding up a hand I cut Kevin off, his worry is understandable but he needs to look at the facts and realize they won't do anything to me, well they could take me captive but they can't hurt me in any way.
"I have to go, no matter how much you argue it won't change my mind, this is for my mate. Wouldn't you do the same for Sarah if our roles were reversed?" Kevin's face goes to one of understanding as he hesitantly nods knowing I'm right about having to have this meeting. Turning away from him I open my car door sliding into the driver's seat and quickly starting the engine as I close the door. As I start to back out the driveway my eyes go to the window of Reina's bedroom, a sad smile creeps across my face as I see her standing in the window watching me leave, as our eyes meet she turns bright red then walks away from the window making me chuckle at how cute she can be.
Ah how I love driving this car! Out of all my cars my Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is my favorite, a few years ago I started street racing so I bought this car and hugely modified it, body kit, nitrous, custom head and tail lights, I built it up with every upgrade imaginable. Kevin calls it a douche car claiming everyone he's ever seen driving a souped up car like this is a douche. The main reason for picking this car to drive instead of a normal sedan or suv is because of how fast it is, it's clocks over two hundred thanks to all the modifications and right now if I don't speed like my life depends on it I'll be late to the meeting, not to mention it has been a while since this baby has gotten to stretch her legs. The meeting place is five hours away and I need to be there in three so I stomp on the accelerator enjoying the roar of the engine. One awesome detail about being a supernatural leader of any kind is we are issued special license plates that are the equivalent to diplomatic plates so no matter how fast I drive I can't be pulled over, certain human officials know about the existence of the supernatural world and how we don't follow man's laws, having laws of our own that have been in place since the world began so they let us do whatever we want as long as we keep our existance hidden. They are taught how we are constantly at war with each other, and how it is sometimes necessary for us to kill for survival so they don't metal in our affairs in anyway.
After three hours of going two hundred miles an hour while weaving in and out of traffic I finally make it to the designated meeting place, a cozy looking diner in the middle of nowhere that is closed due to being reserved for the meeting. Hopping out of my car I quickly sniff the air trying to detect any hints of other supernaturals being nearby to check if they are planning to set me up. Smelling nothing but the human staff inside I release a breath of relief, glad I was right that they wouldn't try anything. Heading into the diner I go straight to a booth farthest away from the windows and door as possible, keeping in mind that this meeting isn't something anyone just driving by should see, well more like I'm what shouldn't been seen. Because of who I am being found out by some, they have done everything possible to have me at the top of the kill list of every gang and organization, a several million dollar price is on my head so I tend avoid leaving my territory.
The bell above the diner rings and the scent of a fallen as well as an unknown scent assault me, my face wrinkles in confusion as the two scents remind me of Reina's unique smell. Standing up I watch as the large black haired fallen angel scans the small diner spotting me almost immediately, his face conveying no emotions as he approaches. Over his shoulder a fluffy white ear is peeking out from behind him, an ear very similar to Reina's except for my mate's ears are black, standing face to face with the legendary Protector is a little more intimidating than I thought as I take in his tall stature and bulging muscles, his icy blue eyes seem like they could pierce into your soul.
"Cameron." His voice is deep and full of authority as he addresses me with a somewhat cold gaze.
My face turns blank as I go into alpha mode. "Damon Light." I hold my hand out, he eyes me in a challenging manner before he takes my hand, gripping tightly as he shakes it.
The fluffy white ear behind him suddenly turns into two ears as a small pale head peers around him like a child. My mouth goes slack as she stares at me, feeling that I pose no threat, she cautiously steps out completely from behind Damon and there's no denying who this woman is. Petite, fluffy ears, several tails, porcelain skin and pink eyes, Reina is a mini version of her mother, there are quite a few differences between the two but they share too many similarites to be anything but mother and daughter. Shyly she takes a step towards me then begins sniffing the air around me, completely dumbfounded by what she's doing my eyes go to Damon who just rolls his eyes at his mate's actions. Before I know what is happening I'm tackled to the ground by the tiny woman, engulfed in a bone crushing hug, knocking all air out of my lungs. What the f**k is with this woman?! Is my future mother in law crazy?
"Lotus! What are you doing? You can't just tackle people like that." Damon groans at the end, clearly this is something that happens pretty often.
She burries her face into my chest. "He smells like my daughter!" The woman chirps excitedly. "You must be very special if your around her enough to pick up her scent." Before she's able to continue anymore Damon gently picks her up with one hand like she weighs nothing, then setting her gently down on the booth. Swiftly, I stand up dusting off the back of my now dusty pants.
"I don't mean to sound rude, but what exactly are you?" I tilt my head to the side as I completely study this strange woman, I have never heard of any Being or creature having nine tails, her hair is just as snowy white as her ears and tails, strange tattoos are on both of her upper arms that appears to be ancient japanese writing or something similar and the strange pink eyes, the only supernaturals that come close to having pink eyes are demons, meaning she has to have demon blood... Damon exchanges an uneasy glance with her, unlike him though she doesn't seem the least bit uneasy as a graceful smile lights up her face.
"I'm what's called a Kitsune or fox spirit, which is sort of like a fox shifter, but a lot more complicated than a normal shifter, I was the last of my kind til I had children." From the look on Damon's face he isn't the least bit pleased that she easily shared this information with me. "Aside from a handful of supernaturals and those in the Protector Organization you are now the only one to know of my existence." With her being an unknown species that is practically existenct she should not be telling me that, she must have a low sense of awarness when it comes to herself. "Now, you asked for a meeting to discuss matters with my mate, and you have matters to address that requires my presence so let's get started."
I slide into the booth across from her ,my head filled with more questions than before, to properly be with Reina I'll not only have to learn everything about fallen angels but also learn what I can about her mother, who is just as unique as her daughter. Damon grabs one of the plastic menus acting like it's the most interesting thing in the world as his mate just smiles at me, feeling nervous under her all too happy gaze, I follow Damon's idea and grab a menu of my own reading over the few choice meals. A chubby middle aged woman comes over to us with notepad in hand, she takes down our orders of burgers and fries for Damon and I, while Lotus only orders water as she oddly pulls a bag of assorted nuts and berries out of the sleeve of her short kimono. My mate has a very weird mother. "Um... is it ok to be walking around like that around humans?" I question Lotus as I can't help but look her ears.
"What do you mean?" She innocently asks.
"It's fine, a friend put a cloaking spell on her ears and tails so the humans only see a white haired woman wearing traditional japanese clothes that haven't been worn in over a century." Damon gives his mate a teasing smile while she gives him a death glare, guess they have different opinions on clothing. I'm curious as to why she is dressed like that but now is not the time to be asking such questions. Turning back to me, Damon's face gets serious. "Cameron I have temporarily had your name taken off every hit list, honestly I was a tad bit happy to get your call because I had some things I wanted to confirm, which there seems to be no need anymore as I see you are wearing the necklace created by the first witch for the immortal protector. So, is what I researched true?" His eyes are focused on the crystal necklace.
Straightening up in my seat I reply. "Yes, I am the second immortal protector."
"Ooohhh, the immortal protector was such a nice man! His mate was a little scary though." Lotus pipes in shocking both Damon and I. "Why are you looking at me like that?" She huffs crossing her arms over her chest in a pouty manner. From this very short interaction the three of us have had it is obvious Reina's personality is nothing like her mothers.
"You met him?!" Damon exclaims nearly jumping out of the booth.
Lotuse shrugs like it is no big deal that she has met the Being from legends created thousands of years ago. "Yes, over nine hundred years ago he was in Japan and stumbled upon my trainer and I, he stayed with us for a very short time trying to convince us to come with him." Nine hundred years ago? How old is this woman that looks no older than her mid twenties?!
I can't help but say something. "Wait, I thought he died thousands of years ago or something since he's only a legend now." If someone was known for a fact to exist less than a thousand years ago they would not simply just said to be only a legend.
"Nope, he told me that about fifteen hundred years ago he started sticking to the shadows to do his work, so he was slowly forgotten about over time, sadly he died eight hundred years ago but nobody knows how he died."
The fallen angel runs a hand over his face already looking exhausted from the short exchange. "To think twenty six years ago you had no clue about anything aside from foxes and magic, and now you've turned into some kind of scholar who knew such a powerful Being." Damon grumbles earning him a playing smack from Lotus.
"Cameron, I need to know everything having to do with you being an immortal protector, as well as how you ended up on the kill list. As you are aware the organization is very powerful so it is imperative we know what is going on." Damon is suddenly serious once again as Lotus looks horrified hearing a protector is on any kind of hit list.
Taking a deep breathe I launch into a long story. "The day I was born my family knew who I was by using this necklace to test me." Unconsciously, my hand grips the silver covered crystal. "The silver didn't burn my skin and the dormant magic in the crystal awoken creating the black mist in it. They kept this to themselves and tried to keep me hidden as much as possible, which is no easy for an alpha's child. Everything went smoothly until my eighth birthday when rogues attacked and I was stabbed with a silver dagger coated in wolvesbane, seeing that the weapon had no effect on me, the rogues ran off and reported it to whoever they were working for. Shortly after, the rogue's boss killed my parents in an attempt to capture me, which failed as my father's beta took me away weeks before hand to hide me in a cabin on a mountainside. When I was old enough to take over the alpha position I returned to the pack, deciding to completely isolate us from the world in hopes of not being found."
Knowing Damon isn't going to like the next part I take another deep breath before continuing. "The rumors of harboring criminals is true." A deep growl rumbles from Damon as his fists clench tightly onto the table. "The criminals are not actually what they are said to be, they are all innocent, so I have been protecting them, my pack also has all types of shifters living there. Since a lot of shifters are endangered Beings I want them to be safe. As word of this got out someone let it slip to the outside world who I was, it scared some higher ups in the world that are deep into dangerous activities so they want me dead, deciding to spread falsities all over in hopes of attracting the attention of the organization and having Black Death come after me." Damon stays silent, running my words over in his mind, trying to find any lies in the truth I told. "Black Death is already after me isn't she?" I question causing Damon to raise a brow at me like he has no idea what I'm talking about. "You see, someone has been staying in my territory and they ooze assassin, especially with the swift graceful way they move. The woman also has an enchanted bag hiding weapons, I acted as if I never saw the weapons in the bag, I have an ability to see through most enchantments."
"So hidden weapons makes you assume someone is an assassin, and not just any assassin but the notorious Black Death?" I can see the worry and panic flashing in Damon's eyes, while he grips Lotus' hand. Nothing but innocent curiosity shows on Lotus' face showing her obliviousness of not knowing who her daughter is, she must be out of the loop of everything.
From Damon's reaction it is clear that he sent Reina and she is in fact 'Black Death'. "Not at all, I have met numerous Beings who carry weapons but this person has every kind of weapon, as well as enchanted bullets and arrows which are known to be used by Black Death. The other day the woman asked me to get something out of her room for her, by chance I happened to stumble upon an arrow she hid quite cleverly and it had the letters BD etched into it along with a very unique symbol that the woman just so happens to have tattooed on her body."
"Assuming Black Death is a part of the organization who is in fact after you, you should know by now that if they were supposed to kill you then you would be dead by now." Damon appears completely calm, the man has a great poker face.
She hasn't killed me because we are mates and more than likely she has been trying to search around to learn more about who I am and what is going on in the pack. "True, I know that woman was originally meant to kill me but it seems the agenda has changed considering I'm still alive."
"Enough with the hidden meanings!" Lotus voices clearly annoyed as she glares at her mate. "Let me get this right, Damon you sent someone to kill Cameron but changed your mind, correct?"
Sighing, Damon replies. "Some interesting information came to my attention so I temporarily changed the hit to information collection."
"You are unbelievable sometimes." She huffs throwing her hands up in the air, mates are a very scary thing, seeing how easy it is for her to take down such a powerful man using no effort whatsoever.
"We need to discuss the main reason for me calling this meeting." Both look at me very interested in what could be more important than what we've been talking about. "It's about your daughter, Reina."
