  I woke up the next morning feeling good about myself. Today was the day I was going to sever all ties with James. It had been a long five years, and I had spent nearly all this time trying to get James to notice me, trying to get him to love me. Our love—no, not love. Our marriage was never a love story. It was never arranged. In fact, it wasn’t a marriage of any kind in the traditional sense. It was forced. We were married by constant pressures, by obligation.
