The day didn't turn out to be that bad, as Scarlett had thought it'd turn out to be. When she had woken up, she felt a nagging poke in her gut that he day was creepy and bad, but so far, the day was not...that bad, she was making the special pancakes, as the coffee machine beeped indicting that the coffee was ready, Scarlett added one shot of sugar, as instructed by the owner of the orphanage, Mr. Marcello was a private man, he was always locked in the office build upstairs, essentially the orphanage should be handled by two brothers, but so far, Scarlett had seen only one, the other brother was yet to be seen.
But Scarlett was not sure, if she wanted to meet any new person, at the moment, she was good without meeting him, anyone for the record. She flipped the pancakes as she placed them into a tray carefully, along with the coffee she had just made, she had already made the pancakes for the kids, as they were already eating them on the dining table, and the two munchkins, were also being fed by some children.
Scarlett had met Mr. Marcello, he was a cranky, but decent man, for him, the kids came first, he is constantly checking up on them, from time to time. Though he never spent time with them. But it looked like he cared for them, she glanced at the clock which read, 10.00 AM, Scarlett was late today, she was so slow whilst making pancakes, because stirring the batter was making her hand move in such ways, which filled her eyes with tears, but with an idyllic façade she continued with her work, the date to her payment was coming and so was the date for the bills. She needed this job, so she could pay her mother' bills, as well as store for the tuition fees for the second year of her college.
Scarlett climbed up the stairs as she balanced the tray in her shaky hands which were painfully shaking due to the weight on them. She bit her lip as she tried to knock with her elbow, but finally when she had knocked two times, barely audible, a swift cranky 'come in' came from behind the door, as she pushed the door with her hips, because after the knocking she did, she could not apply pressure onto the elbows again.
A grunt came from the man sitting behind the stack of papers, with a small shy smile, Scarlett placed the tray on the edge of the table, as she cleared some place, so that she could actually put the tray there.
The man picked his coffee as Scarlett waited for him to finish, as he forwarded a page of the budget sheet towards her, Scarlett took it with shaky hands, and scrunched her brows together as she looked at the man in confusion.
"Add the amount which would be suitable, for one more kid." He grumbled as he bit onto the piece of pancake.
"What?" Scarlett softly mumbled, still confused.
"There's a new kid, of around five coming here in about a week, add the amount which would fill the necessities and share in food." He grumbled as he loudly slurped the coffee, Scarlett winced at the harsh sound, as she filled the sum of money, passing the sheet back to the man, Scarlett was about to leave as they both heard a loud crash from downstairs, both of their' eyes widened as they thought of the possibility of a kid wounded.
As fast as Scarlett could push through with her throbbing knees she did, as the man practically threw his coffee mug as he ran for downstairs, Scarlett climbed down the stairs, with an occasional hiss, as she felt the tears cloud her vision, she blinked them, and as she reached downstairs, it was not at all what she had expected...

Men in black were all scattered around the room as all of them had a gun each in their hands, which were at the moment plastered onto every kids' head, all of them had stoic and cold expression, one of them even had an arm around Mr. Marcello' neck, as he thrashed but with a violent shove of the tip of gun to his forehead stilled him like a dead person.
Scarlett' haze was broken as she saw Mason, crying in the clutch of another man, as he trapped his arms, and legs, to keep him from thrashing around, Mason screamed as soon as he saw her. Looking into the afraid and scared eyes of the kid, as his chest rose and fell in a frantic manner, as tears fell from his eyes continuously.
"Letty‼" Mason cried, and in a frantic manner, with promising eyes, Scarlett ran down the stairs, disregarding the throbbing knee, but everything flew in a blur around her as her foot got tangled into the carpet on the stirs, as she rolled down the stairs, a loud cry escaped her mouth as her knees and elbow pushed around, she could feel the blood coming out of the wound, a sob escaped Scarlett' throat as she felt on her elbows, and her stomach, she quickly fisted her fist in her mouth as she bit on her fist hard, as another shaky inaudible cry left her mouth, pushing every pain aside, she lifted her head, and came in sight were the expensive, polished and beautiful Italian leather shoes, Scarlett looked up to the owner as she craned her neck to get the view of the person the pair of shoes belong.
She was met with the most beautiful obsidian eyes she had ever seen in her eyes, those eyes were deep, and dark black, the chiseled jaw, and the flawless skin, cleanly shaved, and the straight nose, with those plump and kissable lips which shone as the person wet them with his tongue, his tongue swiftly ran over those lips, which now looked more tempting and red.
The person had chocolate brown hair, which were styled back, still some persistent curled strand fell onto his eyes. Those obsidian eyes were enchanting, the more Scarlett looked into those eyes, and the more she felt like falling in the pool of darkness, beautiful darkness. The type of darkness which could protect you, and sooth you.
Scampering to the sitting position, Scarlett crawled back as she tried to control her cries, from the harsh movements she was doing, Scarlett could see the edge of her knees having splotches red marks, and the gauze was soaked in her blood. Scarlett bit more tightly on her fist as she felt her elbow hit the stair, she felt copper in her mouth, and felt some blood even trickle down from her hand, lost in the golden shirt she wore.
Breaking the gaze, as the man blinked and looked at her fist which had blood trickling down from it. His fists clenched, sensing the anger, Scarlett turned her neck and looked at the crying Mason, who threw his hands towards Scarlett, feeling the gaze Scarlett looked back at the man, but he wasn't looking at her, he was looking at the man who held Mason, he blinked and looked back at Scarlett.
Scarlett looked back at Mason, who was set free, and was running towards her, Scarlett embraced the kid as she wrapped her arms around Mason and pushed his sobbing face into her neck as she kissed his face repeatedly.
Scarlett looked up at the man, surely he was man with so much power as with just a blink of his eyes the man freed Mason. She looked through her lashes and met with those enigmatic obsidian eyes which stared back into her mesmerizing crystal blue eyes, she mouthed a quiet 'thank you' and immediately as if the words burned him, the man looked away, Scarlett felt an emptiness settle inside of her, a coldness which couldn't be soothed by the baby Mason clutching her neck.
He was an enigma to her. Too bad, she wasn't even sure she would meet him again, to solve the burning desire to unfold the mystery that he felt like.
Or was she sure? ...
