Sir Hamon de Beresford, Bailiff of the Hemlingford Hundred, lived at his family seat of Langley Hall. The safest route lay along Lichfield Road, through and beyond Erdington. From there you took the Chester Road to Minworth, then walked North past Peddimore Hall. It took at least two hours, but the journey had good roads and places to rest without worry of ambush.
Marion, Imelda and Clement reached the hall just before noon. They had plenty of time to admire the building as they walked the long approach. The impressive manor house put Erdington Hall firmly in its place. With a moat and fresh crenellations, it looked as secure as it was large.
