THE ‘DATE’

It was saturday and Patty was treated like a celebrity by her roomies. Hannah and Rejoice were to select her outfit. Inasmuch as she didn't want a glam, Gloria insisted to make her up. Blessed on the other hand was taking care of her hair. Everyone got busy and it took her by surprise.

"Patty you are blinking too much. You will ruin your face if this eye liner goes to the wrong direction. If you ruin this glam with your unnecessary blinking eeerh you will spend the night in the kitchen" Gloria spat out angrily.

"It's just an outting and you guys are doing all this. I don't want to look over dressed. He might think I'm desperate" Patty managed to say.

"You don't know anything so just shut up. Make sure you don't ruin this date ooo" Rejoice said with a frown.

"Just go with the flow okay. I trust you will do just fine" Hannah said with a smile.

There was a knock on the door and they knew it was Joel so they wished Patty good luck and asked Joel to take care of her. 

Joel: wow...you look amazing.

Patty: Thank you.

Joel: shall we?

Patty: sure.

This guy wasn't joking when he asked Patty out. The car he brought to pick her up, caught people's attention. This guy is not small. Patty didn't say anything to him neither did she show him any signs that she was surprised. They were both silent until they reached the venue, which read: RIDGE ROYAL HOTEL.

Joel: we are here.

Patty: A hotel? I came out here with you because you said it was just a friendly date or outing so why on Earth will you bring me to a hotel?

Joel: please calm down. It's a hotel but there is a restaurant at the other part. You are too beautiful to be taken to regular places. Shall we go in now.

Patty: okay.

They got inside and were excorted by a staff to their table. You heard me right, 'their table'. This guy wasn't joking. He knew how to treat a lady. He got a whole table reserved for them. They had alot of fun. They got to know a lot about each other. They got along pretty well. Patty was relieved when Joel only asked for them to be friends. It was really late and Joel had to drop Patty of. Joel gave Patty a kiss on her hand thanking her for a wonderful night.

Patty:What was that for?

Joel: Errrm...I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. It was a friendly kiss on the hand. I had a great time all thanks to you. Can we do this again?

Patty: Well...it depends. Don't get me wrong, it's been nice hanging out with you but I'm not the outing kind of person.

Joel: I understand you. We can still hang out. We can get snacks in any of the cafeteria's on campus. 

Patty: Okay. I'm really tired so I have to go to my room now.

Joel: Sure. I will walk you to your door. 

Patty: Thank you 'Mr gentleman'. Goodnight.

Joel: Goodnight.

Patty got to her room really exhausted. Her feets were hurting from the heel she was wearing. She rushed to freshen up. She fell on her bed and was fast asleep in no time. Her sleep was shortened by her friends. They woke her up to ask her about what happened she and Joel. 

Patty: it was just a normal late night outing or date or whatever.

Rejoice: so you guys didn't kiss? 

Patty: like I said, it was just a friendly date or outing. I don't even know what to call it. But he kissed my hand. He said it was a friendly 'something'.

Blessed: my sister it was a date. And that kiss...hmmm....he likes you.

Patty: you guys should stop okay. We are just friends at least for now.

Gloria: Did I hear you say for now? Heheheeeee....our sister is crushing on the guy already.

Patty: I'm not crushing on him. He is a nice person and that's all.

Hannah: are you blushing?? Gloria it's true she is crushing.

Patty: I won't mind you guys. I have things to do.

Patty tried to go back to sleep but she couldn't. She wanted to send a 'thank you' message to Joel but she decided not to. Since he was the one who asked her out, she was expecting him to text her. She waited the whole day but didn't receive a text from him. He didn't even call. Patty saw that to be rude and decided to forget about him. She really got upset when her Tony mentioned him in their conversation.

Patty: don't even mention his name. Do you know that he hasn't called or texted to thank me for accepting to go out with him. It's been three days. 

Tony: do you like him?

Patty: why does everyone think that I like him.

Tony: from the way you are acting, it means you like him. Just becareful.

Patty: you guys got the wrong impression...in fact I hate him.

Tony: madam that's not what I see ooo....let's just change the topic but just know that I will be here for you anytime you need me.

Patty: thanks boo.

Tony was surprised that Patty actually had a crush on someone else. Even though he was hurt, he promised himself to be his besties shield. A week passed and nobody mentioned anything concerning Joel. At the cafeteria with her besties as usual chatting heartedly, Joel showed up.

Joel: hello, can I join you guys.

Patty: no please. 

Tony: oh c'mon Patty, don't be like that. Charley you can join us don't mind her, we've had a rough day that's why she is in that mood.

Blessed: Tony is right you can join us.

Joel: Thanks guys. Patty how have you been? It's been a while.

Patty: as you can see I'm fine. Blessed I think we should leave.

Joel: Patty I'm sorry I couldn't reach you after the night we went out. I had a call about the loss of my dad the next day and I had to rush home. I'm sorry.

Patty: eeermm....I'm sorry about that. I didn't know. I'm sorry about how I treated you earlier.

Joel: It's okay. Anyone in your shoes would have acted the same way you did.

Blessed: sorry for your loss.

Tony: sorry bro. It is well.

Joel: thanks guys.

Joel was just lucky he had a good reason for what he had done. Patty felt bad for treating him the way she did. Later that day, Patty called Joel to check up on him. They became real friends after a couple of days. Checking up on each other became the new normal. After a few weeks they were close friends. They hanged out a lot but Patty never paid him a visit in his hostel. And she didn't hesitate when he asked.

Joel: I want you to meet my roommate. He is also my closest friend. 

Patty: okayyy....but is that another way of asking me to come to your hostel?

Joel: mmmm...yh....you are not just pretty, you are smart too.

Patty: thank you.
