"Rise!" The voice commanded, and she felt it right into her soul
She gasped immediately. Air slammed into her lungs so bad, that she could feel her chest burn, her eyes immediately went open
"Lady Selene," a very familiar voice said. She jerked upright immediately. A young maid was standing beside her, smiling as though nothing in the world had happened
"Lady Selene, the guests have started coming" She said with a huge smile on her face
"Lady Helena asked me to help you prepare for the engagement banquet"
The engagement banquet? No! She quickly looked around the room. She saw the moonstone curtains, the silver wardrobe, the vase of white lilies by the window side, her bedroom
She didn't see the deadlands, she didn't see the rain, she didn't see the blood-soaked earth where rogues had ripped her apart. She stared at her trembling hands. There were no bite marks, no silver wounds, and no single blood
The last thing she remembered, was Brandon's rejection, the rogues, their glowing yellow eyes, and then the ancient heartbeat
"Rise" The voice came again, she immediately rose up to her feet that the maid got startled and jumped
"My Lady" she said. "What is today?" Selene asked her. "The night of your engagement banquet of course" She said
Her heart was really beating fast. She had returned three years before her death. The maid shook her head. "Are you feeling sick, my lady? She asked, but Selene wasn't really paying attention to her
Tonight was the engagement banquet. The night Luna Helena would be poisoned, the night that she would be framed for her being poisoned, the night Brandon would begin believing that she was a murderer
"No, not again," She said to herself. "I refused to die twice" She said to herself before bringing herself to reality
"I am fine" She said with a sharp lie, looking at the maid. The maid smiled in relief and lifted up the gown from the bed.
"This will look so beautiful on you" she said as she stared at the gown
For the first time in her life, she wished she had worn that gown with a heart full of hope, by sunrise, it would be stained with more blood and tears.
"No" She said to herself again, then took the dress from the maid's hands and threw it into the floor. She looked at Selene in shock.
"My lady," she said.
"Leave now!" Selene commanded. "But, but Lady Helena," she said. "I said leave" Selene said
She immediately left her room and shut the door
Selene forced herself to breathe. This is not a dream. The future can still be changed, a knock interrupted her thoughts
Three slow knocks, but it wasn't the maid. She felt uneasy. "Come in," I said. The door cracked open, and an elderly servant entered, carrying a tray of tea
The moment his eyes met hers, his face drained of color, the tray slipped from his hands and scattered on the marble floor, tea splashed behind their feet, and then he stumbled backwards
"No," he said with a shaken lips. "No, that's not possible" he said, still shaking
He wasn't looking at her like a servant looking at his future Luna, he was looking at her like he had seen a ghost, a terrifying ghost
She took one slow step towards him. "Have we met?" She asked
His breathing became ragged. "You" he said with a cracking voice. "You shouldn't exist," he said.
She felt cold all over her. Those weren't the exact words that she was expecting to hear from anyone
"What did you say?" She asked. He shook his head violently as he tried to run
She grabbed his wrist before he could run. "Look at me," she said. His terrified eyes met her's, and for the first time, she saw something in those eyes
"What do you mean I shouldn't exist?" She asked. His mouth opened, then she saw terror in his eyes, then pity
"You really don't know," he asked. "Know what?" She asked. "They brought you back" he said, her whole body was shaking
"Who?" she asked. He came close, lowering his voice until it was barely a whisper
"You think the moon goddess brought you back? he asked with a weak smile
"Then who?" She asked. "The ones who failed to save you the first time, " he said. Her blood ran cold immediately
"What are you talking about? She asked in panic. He opened his mouth to talk but immediately started shaking, his entire body jerked violently.
"No" She screamed, forcing his jaw to open but too late. The sharp scent of bitter almonds hit her nose. Poison, hidden inside one of his teeth. She caught him before he fell
"Stay with me" She said as his fingers dug into her sleeve "The crimson hand" he said
"I have never heard of them," she replied. "You will," he said as his breathing grew weaker
"They don't want the Luna" he said, as he coughed violently. "They don't want the alpha," he said as blood stained his lips. "They want..." he said, his eyes locked onto mine
"You," he said. "Why? Why would they want me? she asked, his smile was gradually fading and getting sad
"I watched you die," he said. "I watched them throw you into the Deadlands" Those words landed like hot blades. "I watched the rogues tear you apart" he said, her heart began to burn
"The future" he said while struggling to breathe
"Has changed, but not for everyone, he said, as she leaned closer
"There's a traitor" He said with a faint voice
"Who?" She asked, bringing her ears closer to his mouth. "The one whom you trust the most," he said. "Tell me" She screamed shaking him but he was already dead
She knelt behind his body, unable to move at all, then she heard footsteps coming towards her room
It was Brandon and everything was about to change
