Chapter 2

The CEO's office door was tightly shut. I took a deep breath and pushed it open with a soft creak. Ethan sitting behind the executive desk looked imposing, his tailored suit stretched perfectly over his broad shoulders. Half of his handsome face was hidden in shadow. His deep blue eyes lifted from the documents in front of him and landed on me. "You're two minutes late." "I'm sorry." I lowered my voice, walked over, and crouched down. Keeping my head lowered, I exposed the vulnerable curve of my neck. A large, burning hand landed on my skin, repeatedly rubbing the soft flesh at the back of my neck. It wasn't until the skin there turned red and throbbed with heat that his deep, cold voice finally sounded above me. "Don't let it happen again." The tension in my chest slowly eased. I stood up and returned to my desk. My workstation was placed in the corner of Ethan Shaw's office, directly facing him. Nothing blocked his view of me. A full-length mirror stood behind my chair, positioned perfectly so he could see my every movement from any angle. I'd lived through this nightmare of having no privacy for five years. Everyone in the city believed Ethan Shaw, the Alpha who led Shaw Group, was the most desirable man around. He wasn't even 30 yet, but he already controlled hundreds of billions in assets. With his sharp features and deep blue eyes, he could make anyone lose their composure at first sight. He had never been involved in a single scandal. The only person he ever brought to banquets and business events was his assistant. Everyone envied me, an ordinary, unknown omega, for becoming his assistant for five years, earning an extravagant salary, and receiving countless expensive gifts. But they didn't know the truth. Ethan was a complete control freak. A terrifyingly obsessive man. He didn't give me jewelry and custom-made gowns so I could handle his social obligations or drink for him at banquets. He wouldn't even allow me to touch a wine glass. All he wanted was for me to stay right behind him. He took me to every event, but kept me within one step of him at all times. At the office, every second of my day was arranged down to the minute. My afternoon break lasted no longer than seven minutes. My bathroom breaks couldn't exceed 10 minutes. Even lunch was limited to 20 minutes. All because he needed to be able to see me whenever he wanted. Once, I stayed in the bathroom a little longer because I was on my period. I returned to my desk three minutes late. Ethan simply looked up at me and said, "Stand there." The next thing I knew, I was blindfolded with a black cloth and forced to stand in front of the floor-to-ceiling window for three hours. The only sound I could hear was the clicking of his keyboard as he worked. Unable to see anything, I stood there trembling in fear. The pain in my lower abdomen grew unbearable until I eventually passed out. When I woke up, I was lying in a hospital bed. Ethan was sitting beside me, gently brushing a strand of hair away from my face. "You need to tell me when you're on your period too. I need to know everything about you." Even beneath the warm blanket, I felt completely frozen. After that, his obsession with control only grew worse. I was forced to end my apartment lease and move into the guest room of Ethan's villa. The room was warm and comfortable, far better than the cramped, drafty apartment I used to live in. But I could never sleep peacefully there. His bedroom was right beside mine, with an unlocked door built into the shared wall between us. Late every night, he would quietly enter through that door and stand beside my bed without moving. He never did anything. It was as if he only wanted to make sure I hadn't disappeared while he wasn't watching. Even with my eyes tightly closed, I could feel his burning gaze moving over me. I had lived under this suffocating fear for far too long. The necklace around my neck shifted slightly, and the cold touch of the diamond brought me back to reality. This pink diamond necklace that Serena was so jealous of had a tiny tracking device hidden inside. Ethan had personally commissioned it, put it around my neck himself, and forbidden me from ever taking it off. Serena and everyone else only saw that an ordinary omega with no background had somehow become the personal assistant of the city's most sought-after Alpha. None of them knew I hadn't had a single moment that truly belonged to me for years. I had tried to fight back once. I had tried to resign. But the moment those words left my mouth, Ethan simply looked up. "Did you even read the contract you signed? The resignation penalty is $10 million. "Unless someone fires you, of course. But with me here, no one would be foolish enough to do that." I closed my eyes as a wave of cold despair washed over me. He let out a soft chuckle, as if he were watching a child throw a meaningless tantrum. "How cute." That was when I realized it. He had planned everything from the very beginning. He had never intended to let me go.
