While patrolling the border close to the lake, Roman sees a bright light past over the water and hitting the ground hard enough to shake it. "What was that?" As he walks closer, he can smell a human female, but he can't see her. At this point, Celine stumbles out of the tree line towards to water, but collapses right there on the sand. Startled, Roman just looked at her, trying to figure out if he should call for help or get her to safety. As he neared her, he could feel heat radiating form her body. It was almost like she was on fire. "Was that her, the ball of light that fell from the sky?", too afraid to touch her, incase she is in pain. "Dude, seriously, how would a human survive that fall?", Shadow, Roman's wolf, asks sarcastically.
After a few hours, Celine wakes up, and is clearly in pain. She looks lost and broken, so out of place. As she wonders to the water, Roman decides to hide in the tree line. She is very aware that he is watching her. Suddenly she starts running off into the woods. "Did she see us?", Shadow asks. "No, now shut up and shift. We need to keep her safe so that Dominique can asses her later," Roman start running as he shifts into his wolf form. As he follows Celine deeper into the forest, he notices that she makes her way into a cave. She must have received some form of training, because she checked long enough to ensure that there are no creatures or animals in there. She finally settles down, allowing exhaustion to over take her. As soon as Roman is satisfied that is fast asleep, he sneaks into the cave entrance and falls asleep in his wolf form.
The next morning, he senses her sneaking past him, but he acts as if he is fast asleep. He has a feeling where she is headed, or at least which direction she is running in. So he gives her a head start, letting off a loud high pitched howl, to let other warriors know he found something and what his location is. He hates the mind link, so he always howls. He chases her down a familiar path. Just he thought, she makes way up to his old cabin where he spends his off days. Away from everyone, and everything, just him and mother nature. He lost his mate in the war, and since then, has been keeping to himself most of the time. As he nears the cabin, he lets off another loud howl. When he reached the door, he realized that he won't be able to open it, and growls in frustration. He can smell her inside the cabin and claws at the door. Finally he gives up, and decides to do the next best thing, go to the Alpha and let him know what he found. Besides there are other warriors close by, they will pin her down should she decide to run again. For now, she has food and a bed in the cabin, she will be safe in there.
While making his way up to the castle, he tries to figure out what to say to the Alpha King, to make him understand why he could not bring the human to the castle. She is a lot faster then any other human he has ever chased down. Almost as light footed as an elf. But just a strong as a wolf. It makes not sense. She is only human, so maybe she just works out and trains a lot. Like those athletes do on tv who go to that special sports event once every four year. After running for 3 hours, Roman finally reaches the castle and goes straight to the Beta, Drake. After shifting back into his human form, and grabbing a pair of shorts and a t-shirt from one of the omega's standing at the door as he walked in to find Drake. As usual, Drake is his office, busy with paperwork, that has to be signed off by Dominique.
"Come on in, and make it quick, I have a meeting with the Alpha in 10 minuets," Drake barked from behind his desk. He seems to be in an unusual mood today. "Sorry for disturbing Drake, but I wouldn't be here if it wasn't important." Roman bowed his head, as a sign of respect to the Beta. "You look irritated and seriously happy with yourself at the same time, what happened," putting his pen and paperwork down, Drake motioned for Roman to sit down. After explaining to Drake what had happened, Roman sat back, waiting for a response. Drake rose from his chair, and motioned for Roman to follow him. He doesn't even know on the door of Dominique's office. "Your late Drake, what held you up?" Dominique doesn't even look up. "You need to hear this, before we can start our meeting. It has to do with that ball of light we saw last night." This got his attention, so he motioned for Roman to tell him everything. ….. "After I realized that she will be safe in my cabin, I left immediately to find Drake. She is really fast and strong for a human. Could be some kind of athlete or something. But definitely human." Drake stood Roman, assessing Dominique's reaction. He has never seen him speechless like this before.
"Drake ask the warriors on the borders close to Roman's cabin if they have an update on the situation." Without hesitation, Drake looks lost in thought, but talking or listening over mind link does that to a werewolf. "The human is still in the cabin, from what they can sense she is fast asleep." Looking at Roman, Dominique smiled and praised his warrior for the good work he did. "Tell them to keep you updated, any movement, I want to know about it. We will move out at first light to the cabin to meet her." Dominique carried on with his instructions, while thinking of what the human could really be, how she outrun one of his best warriors and display such pure strength. He dismisses Roman and starts his meeting with Drake, even though it is an hour overdue.
The next morning...…
Drake wakes up to find Dominique hammering at his door, "Drake!! Wake up, she ran, we need to find her!!!! Come on you lazy bag of fur get up and open the door!!!!!" Drake rolls his eyes at his alpha, and best friend's annoyance. "Seriously Dom, it's not even light yet, you said first light. How in the hell did she slip past all the warriors that was watching over her? Where is Roman?" Drake yawned through his questions, making Dominique throw him with a glass of water. "Roman just got hold of me through on the other warriors. She got up early and bolted straight into the woods when she couldn't see anyone. Why doesn't he use the mind link?" Drake shot up, hearing that the human got up early and slipped past the warrior just as Roman got there. "She really is good, maybe she training in tracking too. She could be a good ally to us you know." While pulling on his shirt, he found himself smiling at the thought of a mere human, besting his warriors. They need some upgraded training. Roman must be really angry right about now. It's the second time she outran him in two days.
Drake and Dominique set off running in the direction the human was last seen in. Drake makes a right turn, to catch her up form bottom, while Dominique makes a right turn to catch her up from the top. Suddenly he smells something sweet, like vanilla and fresh water mixed with fresh cut grass and mountain air. He shifts into his wolf just before a figure bolts past him. Then the smell hits him again and his wolf lets out an loud growl that rumbles through the trees and starts running through the woods to find out what that was. As he comes to a clearing in the woods, Dominique realizes that this is his secret spot where he comes to get away from it all. The only place that does not smell of his mate, the only place he never shared with her. The only place he found after she was killed in the war where he could find peace.
Walking slowly out of the tree line, he growls and sees the figure that bolted past him. It's a human, a female human. He can hear her heart racing in her chest. She is standing dead still by a tree, just looking out onto the lake and then over to the ledge. "Is she thinking of jumping" Roman asks more to himself then anyone else. "No!!", his wolf growled and ran straight for the human. As he ran towards her, a rogue wolf jumps out from the tree line and goes for the human. Dominique's wolf is three time the size of the rogue wolf, faster and stronger. He can take him with one easy bite. He jumps past the human and bites down hard on the rogue's neck, snapping it between his jaws. As the wolf lays limp in his jaws, Dominique realizes that the human is standing on the edge of the ledge. He slowly walks up to her, his wolf yelping like a hurt puppy for her not to jump.
To his surprise, she turns around, silver eyes glowing in the sunlight, long blond hair flowing down her back, wiping softly from side to side in the breeze. She looks down at him, slowly moving away from the ledge and sits down by the lake edge. He goes to lay next her, his whimpering softer then before, but still highly alert that she might still run. "Hey big guy, did you get hurt? I guess you were just protecting you territory huh. Well, you sure saved my life. So thank you," the human rubs his massive softly and gives him a soft smile. He lifts his head and lays it down on her lap. Her hand move across his head, down to his back and can't help but shiver under her touch. "You're really big for wolf, your stand taller then me on all four you legs. I like the color of you fur too, it shines almost blue in between the black with silver and gold highlights." As she wonders at the beauty of the massive wolf, laying with his head on her lap, she wonders if she could stay here in the woods, if it will be safe for her. "He seems to really like you, just play it cool so that you don't end up loosing your new friend. He can really help us out here if and when we get attached again," a voice inside the human's mind speaks very fondly of the big wolf, almost like she feels at home with him here.
"My name is Celine, I am kind of lost. I hope you don't mind me being here in you territory, I promise not to break anything. I am just trying to find a place to call home, you know. Where I fit in. My last home, well, lets just say, I can never go back." Tears roll down Celine's face as she remembers her home. Dominique lifts his head and licks her right cheek as if to say it's ok. He gets up and nudges her towards to woods, like he want her to know that she should follow him. Reluctantly she gets up, and walks with him through the woods. After what seems to be an eternity, they reach the castle grounds. Her jaws drops open on awe, and she can't help but hold on Dominique's wolf. He nudges her forward and slowly retreats to run around and back to the castle where he can change and come out to meet her, in his human form.
"Wait, where are you going? Did you understand me, is that why you brought me here? Please wait!!" Celine turns to face the castle again, and starts walking slowly towards it. As she reaches the gate, a guard stops her to enquire about her visit to the castle. She explains only that she is lost and looking for help. The guard, not sure of what to make of her vague reason, asks her to wait while he calls up to the castle staff to report and ask for someone to come to talk to her. As her turns, he sees Dominique walking towards them and bows his head in respect to his king, "Your majesty, the human claims that she is lost and is in need of help."
"Thank you, I will take it from here, I have seen her from my window walking out from the woods towards the castle grounds." Dominique says while walking towards Celine. " Good afternoon, my name is Dominique, I hear you are in need of some help. Why don't you come inside and tell me what happened to you." Holding out his hand to her, hoping that it feels just as good as it did when she laid her hand on his wolf's head. "Thank you, could I bother you for some water if it is not too much trouble?," putting her hand in his, she feels tingles moving up her arm, but dismisses it as her body being exhausted. Though the quick sharp breath that she took and blush flushing over her cheeks did not miss Dominique's eyes. Smiling at the thought that she feels something regarding a mate bond, he leads her inside.
"This place is beautiful, very regal, yet modern. Not that I know much about anything like that," Celine almost sounds regretful while she thinks back to her home in Heaven. She didn't have much and there no trends of fashion statements there to follow, so she just used what she liked. "Thank you, here you go, a cold drink of still spring water," Dominique hands a glass of ice cold water that sparkles in the sunlight shining in through the kitchen window. He can't help but wonder why should said the castle looks modern, regal yes, but modern, not so much. He doesn't like following fashion trends, he only buys what he likes. But if she thinks it's beautiful, who is he argue the point with her. It does however make him think that there is more to her, then what he thinks. "Thank you, I haven't had anything to drink in few days." Her eyes close involuntarily as she drinks the water, feeling it cool her off from the inside out.
"We can sit in my office and talk where there are less ears to pry on our conversation." He puts his hand the small of her back to lead her to where he wants to go. "Smooth Dom, real smooth, now let me out, she is our MATE, I need her to know that. She is our second chance at love. You are going to mess this up!!" The voice on Dominique's wolf is impatient, scared of loosing their second chance mate. "Shut up and calm down, she probably doesn't even know that werewolves exist, and you just want to come out. Let me handle this, please, I won't do anything to loose her, I promise." Dominique shuts his wolf out, and continues walking up the stair to where his office is situated, all the while watching Celine's eyes dart from picture to picture and looking at everything with such intent and awe.
"Here we are, ladies first." He opens the door and Celine just stands there in the doorway, shocked at the sheer size of the office. It has a beautiful view from the large floor to roof glass doors of the forest and mountains behind the castle. In the distance Celine can see the ledge where the pond by which she sat down, patting the big wolf. Without thinking she blurts it out, "I was over there by that ledge, there is a pond there. I was attacked by a wolf, but a much larger black wolf took down the other wolf. I wanted to run and jump off the ledge, but then I heard him whining, so I moved back off the ledge and sat down at the pond. He actually came to lay down next to me with his head on my lap. He was beautiful." Celine hugged her arms around herself remembering the wolf she met. "It is almost like he understood what I said to him, I told him I wish I could stay there, but I need shelter and a safe place to stay. I felt safe with him, like he would always protect me. And I will always protect him. He lead me here, to the castle grounds and then ran back into the woods. I didn't even get a chance to say thanks. I know it sounds stupid, but I felt a real bond with the wolf, like we were meant to meet." Sadness fills her heart and her voice and her eyes tear up again. She quickly wipes it away before Dominique can see it.
"You felt a bond with the wolf? Are you sure?" There was hope in Dominique's voice as he walks to his seat to stop himself from hugging her tightly to him. "Yes, I know it sound crazy, but I did. I felt safe with him. It is weird though, I feel like he right here, but I can't see him." She looks around the office space and then back at the ledge in the distance. "You know, that is actually my secret spot where I go when things around here become to much for me. I go there to relax while admiring the beauty of the nature around me." Dominique says while looking in the direction of the ledge as well. "O, I am so sorry, I didn't know, I just stumbled upon it while I ran through the forest to get away from another huge wolf that was chasing me. But I guess I was too fast for it, or just got distracted." Dominique turns around looking at her with a smile, "You out ran a large wolf? Well now, I gotta hear this story, what happened? How did you end up being chased by a wolf?" He obviously knows how, but he likes hearing her voice. He likes it when she tells him anything that he can use to get to know her.
"It's a ling story, but I ended up running more then what I have in a very long time." Celine sits down on the chair in front of her, thinking back to what happened to her. "I am just looking for a safe place to stay where I can fit in. I am willing to find work and earn my stay. I can't ever go back home." A single tear rolls free from her eye and down her cheek. She wipes away, feeling lost and lonely. "What is your skillset made up of? What can you do and what are you best at?" Dominique acts as if he is just trying to assess the situation to see if he can help her, when in truth he wants to more about her. "Well, I am trained in all forms of martial arts, I am a skilled warrior, sorry, fighter. I know how to track and hunt and I am also skilled at handling various weapons, but my specialty are blades." the pride in her voice, makes Dominique feel extremely proud that he mate is such a skilled fighter, but what did she mean by warrior? "Well, I might an opening for a trainer to train the palace guards and patrolmen. If you would like. You could stay here in the castle in exchange. But I would need to asses you skills first, if that is ok? Celine looks at Dominique with complete disbelieve and appreciation. "Wow, really? And yes of coarse, you are more then welcome to assess my skills. It is the least that I can do to say thank you for the kindness that you have shown me so far. I can be ready in a few minutes." Celine starts to get up when Dominique starts laughing at her.
"Not today, you clearly need some much needed rest and food. And a hot bath. You can sleep in the room next to mine, it's the only that is not occupied right now. I will have someone bring up some clothes for you if would like." Dominique has a glint in his eyes that is very alluring, but it is the color of his eyes that catches Celine off guard. The color looks oddly familiar to her. "Thank you, how can I ever repay you?" She can't help but smile at the kindness shown to her. "Well, umm, if you would like, you could go take a nice hot bath, after which dinner will be ready. We can eat by the kitchen island. And maybe afterwards I can show you around the castle grounds and the castle itself?" He seems a bit unsure, until Celine smiles wide at him, "That would be lovely, thank you." And with that he shows Celine to her room.
Three doors down from his office, on the 2nd floor in the Northern western wing, her room is situated with a view to die for. She walks straight to the large double doors and opens it up to stand on the balcony, just inhaling the fresh air. "The view reminds me of home. Only difference is, I can see more nature here then what I could in my old place." Celine turns around and finds Dominique staring at her, with a very familiar look in his eyes, a look that reminds her of the wolf she met earlier on. "Are you ok?" It just blurted out, before she could even think. "O, yeah, I am ok. My apologies, I was just lost in thought for a few seconds. I am glad you like it here. Well bathroom is through the door next to you. There should be fresh towels in there and something to wash up with. I will send someone up with thing for you to wear. Take your time, we have enough time before dinner is ready. I'll see you in the kitchen." He smile wide toothy smile and Celine can't help but smile back.
After a long hot bath, Celine walks out to the room to find a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt with some socks and sneakers on the bed. As she puts it on, she wonders how it is that it fits so well, seeing as she never told anyone what size she is. "I really need to remember to thanks Dominique for the clothes, and ask him how he knew my size," she mumbles to herself while she tied the laces of the sneakers. Heading down to the kitchen, she looks at each photo and portrait hanging on the walls. In each one, there are wolfs or dogs in the background. It is almost like they were pets. But then she sees the big black wolf she met earlier, in the background of one of the photo's. It knows the people that lives here, so he must have understood her when she spoke to him and brought her here to be safe.
"Hey, I like the portraits and photo's on the walls. Do you know the big black wolf that lives in the woods, because I saw him playing in the background of one of the photo's." Dominique almost chocked on his coffee, and quickly recovered himself. "He wanders onto the castle grounds every now and then. He is very kind and very protective of everyone that lives here." He swallows hard, but maintains his composure. "Aaahh, geez, thanks Dom, I didn't know you saw me like that....." His wolf said, laughing at him. "You say he brought you here right? Well, maybe he knew that we could help you out. And if he laid his head on your lap, well, then he must really like you." At that, Celine smiled, and Dominique felt jealous of his own wolf.
"Well, I mam just glad he was there when he was. You kinda remind me of him, you know. Your eyes are similar to his in color if the light catches it just right. You also have the same manner of looking at me sometimes." With that, Dominique felt a bit better, because she noticed how he looks at her. "If Michael, Gabriel and Luke were here, they would be freaking out right about now and telling me remember my training." Celine sits down next to Dominique at the island and absentmindedly start playing with her damp hair. "Who are they?" Dominique suddenly sounded really strange, his voice was a bit deeper and his eyes were full on silver now. "They were my friends, but Michael betrayed me, Gabriel tried his best to safe me, and Luke, well he just protected me when I needed it most before I was banished. Now I will never see them again. I don't know what I did wrong for Michael to betray me though." She looked really sad and upset at the memory of betrayal. "I am sorry for your loss. Did you love any one of them?" Before he could stop his wolf, the words were out.
Celine looked up at him and shook her head slightly. "No, none of them were my one true love. Michael was my senior and trainer who later became my best friend. Gabriel and Luke I only met the before and the day of my trial before I got cast out. The only close the any form of love I have ever felt, was when the wolf saved my life and stayed by me while I calmed down. I guess I don't really what love really is." The sadness in her voice and sheer emotion swimming in her eyes broke Dominique's heart. He could not handle the pain of seeing her so broken. "Well, if you want, I can call the wolf to the castle grounds later after your tour, then you can spend some time with him." The hope he felt as she smiled made him want to pull her close and hold her tight, but he had to resist, for now. "You could do that? Really? You would do that for me? Thank you Dominique!!!" She jumped up and surprised him with a hug. without even thinking, he put his arms around her nd hugged her back. "Maybe we could take a walk to my secret spot, where you met him. He likes to hang around there too." He let her go and saw a new look in her eyes.
Later the evening, after dinner and the tour, Dominique handed Celine a jacket, and held his elbow out for her to link her arm in his. As they walked up to the spot where he first saw her, he concocted his plan of letting her wait by the pond, while he "went looking for the wolf". He told to wait there, that she will be ok and that he will be back soon. The moon was bright, no clouds in the sky. He long hair weaved about in the slight breeze. Then she felt a cold wet nose press against her neck. When she looked around, she was standing face to face with the big black wolf she had met earlier on that day. "Hey big guy, wow I really missed you. I wanted to say thank you for taking me to the castle earlier. I met Dominique, he is really nice to me, and is so patient with me telling about all my issues. But I missed hanging out here, with you. I feel safe here with you. Actually, I felt just as safe Dominique too. He reminds me of you. You guys seem to have the same eye color. And you look at me the same way he sometimes does. It's almost like you are him in wolf form. But that would just be weird. I mean I have heard of werewolves before, many centuries ago, but I have never seen one. And you are both just way too beautiful to be a werewolf."
He moved his head closer to her should and licked her cheek, making her laugh out loud. She sat on the grass close to the pond just talking to the wolf, while running hand slowly through his fur. Dominique felt at peace once again. So did his wolf. They were where they were meant to be, with her, by the pond in their secret place. After a few hours, Celine realized that she had a big day ahead of her the next day and started yawning. Dominique got up and nudged her with his wolf's nose and pointed his nose to his back. "You want me to get on your back?" She looked almost startled. He nudged her again and laid down for her to be able climb onto his back with ease. She did as he wanted and he stood up and started walking back to the castle grounds. As he got closer to the castle, he mind linked with Drake to meet him by the kitchen door and to make sure no Omega's were there. Celine had fallen asleep on his back, and he didn't want to wake her. So he told Drake to bring him shorts, and to take Celine down from his back very carefully without waking her up before taking her into his own arms again. …
