I sat in a meeting with Alpha Deus of the DarkEast Pack, his son Kairo, and several of their pack elders.
The discussion revolved around trade agreements between our packs, how much the DarkEast Pack could provide, given that my people, the survivors of MoonBright Pack, no longer had a home and were now under my protection. But Kairo seemed more interested in something else: how I could possibly be married to someone without a wolf.
I had brushed off the topic multiple times, but he wouldn’t let it go. My patience was wearing thin, and Zen, my wolf, was on high alert, sensing the tension in the room. I could feel his readiness to pounce at any moment.
“What if you meet your fated mate? What will become of her?” Kairo asked again, his voice laced with mock concern.
