"Miss, we have arrived at the train station. I will check you bags for you, take your time."
The driver starts to walk around the the back of the car as I stretch out my stiff muscles. The train station isn't but an hour and a half away from our estate but the drive felt like it went on forever, at least I got a good nap in. You see traveling from realm to realm can be done lots of different ways. Secret portals mostly, but us Fae have to be different so this is how we travel from place to place. I slowly crawl my way out of the car and blink because of the heavy sunlight. The Fae realm always has great weather but today is exceptionally beautiful.
"Oh great." I mutter to myself as I catch sight of the hundreds of people going in and out of the station.
I shrug the hood of my jacket over my head and downcast my eyes. Hopefully no-one will notice me. As I start to carefully pick my way through the crowd I can feel the eyes of the others upon me. I should have known that I would be noticed, in all honesty they probably were here to see if the rumors were true and that I was really being sent to Greenlake Prep.
"Can you believe they are actually sending her away?"
"Her mother must be getting desperate!"
"It's hard to imagine her as our potential Queen.."
Their words travel above the crowd. You would think they would have at least a bit of decency but alas they do not.
"Oh ouch! Oh my goodness are you OK?" I sputtered as I reached down to help the little girl that I practically just ran over.
"You're.. You're Princess Charlotte.. Oh my gosh I am so sorry Your Highness!" Tears spring into her eyes threatening to fall over the brim.
"Please, Shhh. You are ok." I said as a reached down to touch her cheek.
"Don't worry about me, I should be worrying about you. Are you injured? Where is your family little one?"
Just as she is about to answer an older Fae reaches out and grabs the girl defensively.
"What are YOU doing with my daughter, Princess." She spit the word at me with as much venom as she could muster.
"You better hope that you didn't give any kind power draining disease to my daughter. You are a disgrace to your family and to your people." She yells with so much force you can feel the vibrations from her voice.
Her little show has attracted a large crowd and as I scan through them I see mutters of agreement, looks of approval, and sadness. This is all because of me, why can't I just be like any other Fae. Heck, I would take the slightest bit of magical ability, but no I'm just me, I'm just normal.
"Excuse me, Please move out of my way." I breathe a sigh of relief as Norman, My driver, starts making his way through the crowd.
"Please Princess, If you could come with me. You have a train to catch." He smiles.
"You have suburb timing Norman. I thought I was going to be eaten alive.
"They will get over themselves one day Princess, Don't worry about it."
As we start making our way towards my train I look up and see all the signs with departing trains for later that day. I am heading to the Mortal Realm, but there are trains departing for the Demon Realm, the Wizard Realm and tons more. I know what you are probably thinking. Why in the world would a university for IMMORTALS, be in the Mortal Realm? Well it is simple. Even playing ground. It would not be fair for other immortals if the school was located in a specific realm so it is located in a charmed, undisclosed, very secure area of the mortal world. Most Immortals live among the humans in the first place. Vampires and Werewolves are the most recognizable, but Fae, Trolls, Demons, and others live among them too.
"Princess, you are going to be OK." Norman looks down at me worriedly.
"How do you actually know that, I am going to a school that has legitimately THOUSANDS of immortals, some that already hold a grudge against my parents because they chose each other over species. I can't defend myself, I have absolutely NO magical ability. It is like someone is throwing me into the lions den and pats me on the back and says, "Oh well, survive!"
"Well your dad DID give you mace" He says matter of factly.
"f**k the mace Norman! I yell at him as I roll my eyes.
"Ma'am you shouldn't speak that way in public." he whispers as he glances around.
"I shouldn't do a lot of things in public Norman. Listen, I appreciate you coming and dropping me off and saving me from a hoard of angry people back there. You have been a good friend to me." I hug him tightly and it takes him off guard but sure enough he hugs be back.
"ALL ABOARD! NEXT STOP THE MORTAL REALM. PLEASE HAVE YOUR TICKETS READY ON ENTRY!"
"Well it looks like it is my time to leave, thank you again Norman."
"Anytime Princess" He gives me a kind smile
I pick up my purse and my backpack full of mace and and head off to catch my train.
