With Serena behind me, my focus finally returned to the work. I greenlit more than a dozen overseas projects after that, and in partnership with governments completed the longest transoceanic bridge in the world linking to Aldoria, and built the largest Heritage Arts Pavilion in the region.
A year later I flew out for a site visit. Watching foreign students stream in and out of the pavilion's entrance, something settled quietly in my chest. It had nothing to do with Serena. I was simply grateful that my decision had given the world a place to encounter a culture worth knowing.
Three years later the building took the top prize, and my name was engraved on the trophy of the Golden Keystone Award, the pinnacle of architectural achievement in the world.
